The Fire season is her and
any little spark could cause quite
a fire. The weather is hot and
the plant life like the range grass
is very dry and can burn real
fast and could get real hot.
We just had a 1 300 acre fire
just south of the community
known as the Kuck-up fire and
the cause is still under
investigation, but a lot of range
land was burned out. The fire
started just next to the Trailer
courts on the south side of Warm
Springs where the fire spread
out in no time at all. It was a
good thing the wind was in our
favor and took the flames away
from homes in that area. Many
people were evacuated for a
time until the fire was well out of range from the homes before it
was safe to return home.
There were homes along highway 24 that faced danger and the
highway was closed to travel at that time but the fire was
controlled before it reached those homes in the Dry Hollow and
other parts along the Jackson trail road. The highway 24 was
closed long enough for the bomber to come in and drop retardent
on the flames. Yep! it took Cat's, Planes, Tanker's and men to
control the fire but not until after it consumed 1 300 acres of land.
The hotshot crew had a busy time fighting this fire.
The local Hot Shot Crew has been on the go pretty regular
fighting fires across the west, southwest and just about where ever
they were needed . They were even called to send a crew to
Alaska, on that large fire near Anchorage. The Hot Shot Crews
were in the southwest for quite a spell going from one fire to
another and has spent a number of days away from home.
Just recently the Hot Shot crew just came off the Mt. Jefferson
Wilderness fire which was located just out of the south boundary
of the reservation in the Mt. Jefferson area. The fire was in very
rough terrain and in dry bug infested timber which caused the fire
to become a lot tougher to control and was very dangerous for
falling dry trees in the area.
So far we've really not had real bad thunder storms here on the
reservation and hopefully we won't have any at all.. With the
Dryness of the countryside it would be sure to burn quite a number
of acres of land before it would be contained.
Well like Old Smokey the Bear said, "If you smoke in the
woods. He'll Crush Your Butt."
What's happened in the NBA now days? What's happened to
just plain basketball? Where have all the coaches and ballplayers
gone?
As it appears nowadays when ever they blink an eye all you can
see is $ $ signs. All these players receive so much money to play
basketball and yet most of them can't even make a free shot. It's
disgusting to watch a game on TV and see all these expensive
players miss foul shots. Free shots can make a big difference in
whether a team wins or loses a game.
Today you see games that are lost by one or two points, but the
sticker is the team that lost by one or two points or so has missed
20 free shots during the game. A player thats worth that much
money should be able to make his free shots. The Portland Trail
Blazers have been in this position almost all year long where they
lost games by one or two points but have missed a heck-of-a
bunch of free shots. If they could just make one third of what they
miss their win loss record would change drastically. AHH-NAH-CHI-TOON!!!

To: My people at Warm Springs:
My name is Yvette, my Family is
very helpful in my consistency of
being educated about my disease of
alcoholism & drugs. For 17 years
I've been obsessing on indulging
several types of chemicals, several
brands of beer & whiskey; the rea
sons are finally coming out of my
mind, being able to verbalize to my
peers threw communication, by shar
ing learning I'm not alone. I get com
fort out of this.
Talking to other alcoholics help
me by asserting myself enough to
ask for help, by their listening, pos
sible feedback, nurturing 1 another

To the editor,
We would like to take this time to
thank the Range & Ag Crew and the
Natural Resources for being there in
the time of need. If you weren't there,
we couldn't have done anything for
Lydcll's horse "Freckles" that got
caught in the cattle guard on July
10th, early a.m. The crew had spent
some hot hours out there freeing the
horse.
Blood drive makes quota
To the editor,
Hello from Pastor Rick. I have
heard of some "big" winners locally
from the casino. Did you know that
boasting about winning and mini
mizing losses are prime signs of com
pulsive gambling. The amount of time
spent out of our life gambling is a
sign. Hidden funds, secret loans, hid
den deals are signs of compulsive
gambling. If you have these or other
issues in your life because of gam
bling please call the Counseling Cen
ter for help.
Hey, Warm Springs, you did a
great job. Last week during the Red
Cross Blood drive we had a goal of
50 units. You gave 54 units. Thirteen

I have achoice which is not having to

I have lost my kids threw court,
would like support of Tribal Court

returned to me (Yvette), they are
Yolanda, Tanner, Karlen Yallup. My

We can't thank you all enough for
your generosity and care. The horse
lived only a few hours as the veteri
narian had said would probably hap
pen. The horse will be greatly missed
by Lydell as it was one of his pride
and joys. He had purchased on his
own and it was the first horse that he
had owned.
Thank you all so much,
Pauline Allen & Lydell Suppah
were first time donations. During the
Powwow and blood drive, you put 50

My thanks to all who helped re
