PAGE 6 May 18, 1990 Sp Girls softball and boys baseball season update given Stars coach Carolyn Lucy; the team so far is out to a good start with a three win, no loss record. Teams falling victim to them are Rask Excavation, Dairy Queen and Lillies team. Their next game is with the South Side and the results were not available at press time. Starlets coaches Janell Smith and Sandra Danzuka, at the pres ent time their team has a one win, one loss record, dropping their first game to Keith MFG. They came back to top the Sparklers of Mad ras 13-11 in their last game. They will be facing the Angels in their next outing. There are no results at the present time. Team W.S. 2 Coach Lorraine Suppah; the team is out to a slow start and have dropped three games so far. Coach Lorraine said they need a win to build their morale. They do real good and there comes the time when they fall into a slump and get behind. They have the capabilities to win if the just keep under control and not get excited. Perhaps on their next outing they will pick up a win. The Angels coaches June and Juliane Smith, their team has a one win and one loss record. They were beaten by the Busy Bee Market and came back to beat the Sparklers of Madras in their next game. Their Boat ramps Boat launching ramps on the Columbia River will be shared this summer by Indian and non-Indian anglers. Tensions on the river are expected to ease following the enactment of the joint decision made by the US Army Corps of Engineers, the Columbia River Inter Tribal Fish Commission and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. I988 Pi-Ume-Sha rodeo set for June 23, 24 Pi-Ume-Sha Rodeo is scheduled for June 23 and 24 at the Warm Springs Rodeo grounds on High way 3, l mile north of Warm Springs. Their first game was with Madras Builders, the second was with Ron McDonalds Chev. and their third game was with Culver. Their next game is with the Chiefs. CHIEFS: Coach Willie Fuentes and Andy Leonard, they have a record of 2 wins and 1 loss. They dropped their first game to Culver and came back to beat Thrifty Drugs and Ericksons. They also have their ups and downs during the games. Their next game is with the Braves. LIL BUCKS: Coach Lyle Rhoan, they have a 1 and 1 record up to date. They lost to Insurance Mart and beat Culver. Today they have a bye. PAPOOSES: coach Austin Greene, they have a one and one record to date, losing to the Insu rance Mart and beating Culver. Their next game, today, is with the Rotary Club of Madras. Competition in junior high prepares students for other athletic events Co-ed softball tourney set for June 1,2 &3 The Kalama Family Co-Ed Softball Tournament will be held June l, 2, and 3, 1990. Twelve teams from the Northwest will be competing for awards first through sixth place. The Bi-Annual tour nament will honor the Warm Springs Elders this year. The coaches are asked to meet Saturday morning, June 2, before any of the games begin at the ball fields behind the community cen ter. The rules will be explained along with last minute changes, if any. The tournament directors are looking for sponsors for the awards and donations for the raffle. The Madras White Buffaloes showed well during the district meet where the boys won the team event with a total of 157 points, with Ontario in second place with 98 points. The girls came in second on team score behind Ontario who ended up with 131 points while Madras had 107. The two top finishers in each event and anyone who met state qualifying marks will go on to the state meet this weekend. The Mad ras boys qualified 10 while the girls had eight who will enter the state meet. The state meet will be at Mt. Hood Community College. This year's team was one of the strongest contingents from Mad ras in a number of years to make the state meet. Competition is at its best at the state meet each year and hopefully the Buffs will be able to do well there.
