Perhaps they don't think too much of their lives. You ought to know that this is the only life you have and shouldn't be messed around with. If "Coke," or what ever it is called is being passed out around your school be sure to think twice before becoming involved with that stuff. Kids, the No. 1 asset in todays society, we should be making good plans for the youngsters who are making their way into this cruel world. Today we have all the facilities to plan good programs for the youth here in Warm Springs, Right now a plan is being put to work where a PeeWee Rodeo Association is being formed for the youngsters who are interested in Rodeo's. There are several such organizations formed in the northwest for all the youngsters to enjoy themselves. The one that is being organized will be having a rodeo in the near future as one of the Pee Wee Rodeo's that will be held during the summer months as part of the Northwest Pee Wee Rodeo Association sanctioned rodeos. The foundation for the organization is well set and is now open for membership. The northwest pee wee rodeo association will be having rodeo's all summer long with the finals in the fall. This should keep some kids busy and occupied during the summer vacation. . Spealts" Drugs and Pot en stuff like that are becoming quite a prob lem all over and is popping up around schools all over the country. Kids getting involved with drugs are endangering their lives. There is one type of drug that if you use it once youH never use it again. . .thats true. It is said that drugs passed to tee nagers around schools have been found to contain rat poison. Can't understand why people want to use things like that. Also smok ing that crack, weed, or pot. What does it do for anyone? I got to meet many at the Warm Springs Longhouse. The closeness and love of my relatives during our time of sorrow were of great help to me. I have known for many years that my dear mother had relatives at Warm Springs and I had met some of them in the past but during my recent visit to Warm Springs 1 met many more of them. I had gotten acquainted with my cousins Ruby Reed Torrez, Eddie, Pete, Frederick and Charles also Doris when we were at school in Chema wa. At Chema wa, R uby q uick- School appreciates tours The following letters are reprinted at the request of Warm Springs Elementary. Chief of Police Raymond F. Calica, Sr. I'm writing to express apprecia tion to BIA Agency Special Inves tigator, Rob Moran, Lieutenant Bruce Fones, and the officers who took the time and effort to provide our students with an excellent tour of the jail and some of its procedures. After the students returned from the jail they seemed excited about some of the procedures they had seen. The demonstration of how fingerprints are lifted as well as what happens when an individual is "booked" into jail seemed to be highlights for them. It's obvious that the Warm Springs Police Department is aware of the . way to a child's heart, as the coo kies surely won many friends. Along the same lines, we at Warm Springs Elementary School, felt that an officer eating lunch with our child ren was just the right touch. We appreciate the fact that our police department is willing to take the time and effort to do what they are able to do to establish a positive image in the minds of the children of the community. Thank you again for the well organized tour and kind treatment offered our students. Mrs. Jane Westergaard-Nimocks Strong seeking title Sandra L. Strong is a candidate for the 32nd annual Yakima Nation All Indian basketball tournament queen. Sandra is the daughter of Leona J. A. Strong, her grandpar ents are the late Amos and Eliza Jack Arquette. Sandra is a senior attending Wapato High School where she is a Sandra Strong - ' f r -! ly became my constant shadow, during that time and through later years I have felt great happiness for her love. Ruby always kept me informed of the family and though we often were not able to see each other, her accounting kept us in contact. We, the family suffered a great loss in Pete leaving the family cir cle. He made many people feel happy with his smile and care for them. We heard so many good words about him during his final hours at the Longhouse. I thank the young man, Phillip David for the great task he will ingly undertook and for the great job he did. Also the religious leader, young Wilson, who I have wit nessed grow in his faith. I first wit Ms. Reneva Hammond Warm Springs Fire and Safety I'm writing to express my appre ciation of your efforts in allowing some of the Self Managers in our school to tour the Fire and Safety facilities. Based on the comments of those students who attended, the tour was not only enjoyable, but educa tional as well. 1 understand that you will be able to continue to take small groups through your facilities on every other Friday for the next few months. Thank you again for your efforts in furthering the goals of our Self Managers Program. Without coope ration such as yours, our program would not function as effectively as it does. Wil son was at that time a very young person. Wilson is in my thoughts and prayers, 1 feel happy that he carries on in what he was chosen to do. During my short stay at the Longhouse, I felt I had stepped back through several decades and I treasure that. I treasure the time I was able to become acquainted with aunts, cousins and even nieces. The little grand niece who danced and fell in love with my cross neck lace. She got a hold of it and ask for it, so I gave it to her with my love. I pray that she will take good care of it for it was blessed one Sunday at my church. The cross has helped me in times of need and I pray that Newlyweds express thanks, gratitude To the Editor, As newlyweds, we would like to thank friends and relatives who came to the longhouse to witness our marriage. We would like to begin by thank ing Pierson Mitchell for his gui dance and being our speaker; like wise the three sisters Matilda Mitchell, Nettie Showaway and Sylvia Wallulatum who lead the Washat service. We would like to acknowledge the drummers: Del vis Heath, Dallas Winishut, Her bert Stwyer and Pierson Mitchell. Reverend, Allen Elston performed the wedding ceremony. The wed ding attire was made by, Bobbie Jim, Sissy Scott and Linda Allen. Cake committee-Anne Kirkwood, Cake servers-Ms. Becky Rhoan, Ms. Danielle Gabriel, flowers girls Elsie and Sadie Sam. Last we would like to recognize the wedding party. Best man was my uncle Jay Suppah and our wit ness was my brother Keith Moody. Winnona's matron of honor was Fritz Miller and Susan Moody was the bridesmade. We thank everyone for the help but to complete everything we must first thank our parents. It made Winnona very happy that her father Mr. Andy Garrison sister Augusta Huhta baby Melya and niece Olivia James for travel ing from California to witness our wedding. '"" f I have been interested in Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha since I was a small child in Montana. Today, I received my newsletter from Tekakwitha Conference National Center announcing this year's con ference which will be held in Pho enix, Arizona September 12 to 14. This year's conference is going to be extra special in that H oly Father John Paul II will be attending Sep tember 14. This is a privilege and a great honor to our nation and for a hour-and-a-half, he will be among us to speak with us. I know you have a youth group in Warm Springs and also the Catholic Church is named after Blessed Kateri. I would like to hear from all of you to set a meeting time so that we can share and learn from each other and also to attend mass at the Blessed Kateri Catholic Church.
