Polk, who passed away in March of 1972. Without a picture, we feel our work is not completed. W e, th e c h ild r e n o f Dempsey, thank you for taking the time of reading our request for help. T h e E d u c a tio n Committee is once again planning for their annual graduation banquet. We make an effort to recognize all tribal members graduating. Some how, we always manage to miss someone. We therefore ask you if there are any tribal members graduating, either high school, boarding school, college, or GED out of the W arm Springs/ Madras area, please contact our office prior to May 21st. For those who are working on their GED’s, all GED’s must be completed by Sixteen riders and eight walkers registeredfor the St. Jude’s Bike-A -Thon. The participants helped May 21st. to raise $700for St. Jude’s Children Hospital. Spilyay Tymoo photo by Leno Grimm to speak on Alcohol/drugs Bob G rim m , a form er football star for OSU and later- on drafted into the professional ranks where he played wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings will be here to speak on alcohol and drug abuse at the Warm Springs Elementary school May 18, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. TTie talk will focus on the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse to the children here in Warm Springs. Alcohol and drug abuse is becoming a p ro b le m th ro u g h o u t the country among the younger generation. All parents are invited to attend the talk because parents should be aware of alcohol and drug, abuse and the problems it creates when used in excess. Bike-A-Thon To the Editor, The St. Judes Bike-A-Thon was a success. We had beautiful w eather, 16 riders, eight w alkers (including several small children) and a very helpful and thoughtful group of volunteers. We made over $700 “Riding for Terry.” I am very pleased with its success. I would like to extend a personal and sincere thank you to all those persons who helped organize, promote and run the Bike-A-Thon. a A very special thank you to Andy Lucas who was our M.C., the police department and Fire and Safety for monitoring the route and utilities for supplying their time and equipment. The kids were great. Five rode 20 miles and the rest rode between eight and 12 miles. Thank you all for your support. You made it a success.
