Controversy Over Negro Halts Dallas City Hall Remodel Job DENNIS THE MENACE -By Kelcham I mm nAiT AQ un Frank .T.nmison is a one-armed Negro about 60 and around him swirls a controversy which has stopped work on a $1, 262,712 remodeling job at the old City Hall. Jamison has been operating an elevator on the job for the Janscn Construction Co., getting $50 a week. Ahnut 175 members of a con struction workers union walked out yesterday and started picket ing with signs which protested "payment of sub-standard wages for elevator operation." About 200 union memDers were laid off at four other Janscn Com pany jobs in Dallas and Fort Worth. Harry Janscn. head of the firm, said he offered to pay Jamison the union scale of $112 a week if the union would take Jamison In as a member. "They said they did not want a colored man in the union," Jar.sen declared. H. S. Meanor, business agent of the union, denied this. j "We have not tamea to janscn in several months," he said.
