It passed and sent to the Sen ate by voice vote a bill alloting the Treasury Department $691, 467,000 and the Post Office De partment $3,192,000,000 for op- crating expenses during the fis cal year starting next July 1. The Treasury allotment was $22,3H4,000 and that for the Post Office $58,000,000 less than Presi dent Eisenhower had requested, Both departments were given more than they had for the pres ent year, however. The action represented the nrst test, on one of the regular appro priation measures, of just how economy minded is mis congress. The amounts approved were those recommended by the Appro priations Committee. Beck to Stay Abroad Until End of March VIENNA, Austria Wl Dave Beck, head of the big Interna tional Brotherhood of Teamsters, said Thursday he will be busy at tending union meetings in Europe until the end or March. Beck had said previously he would be available late next month to testify before the U.S. Senate Labor Committee investi gating labor rackets. He has de nied that he went to Europe to dodge the investigations. Beck made some changes in his itinerary. He said he will spend next weekend in Geneva, Switzer land, then return to Vienna next week to continue negotiatios for a union contribution to the relief of Hungarian refugees. He said previously he would go to London this week, then to Paris for talks with French transport workers' leaders before going to I Rome and Geneva. Egypt Damage 1 o Memorials Irks Aussies CANBERRA. Australia m Australia has protested to the Egyptian government against de struction of the Australian-New Zealand war memorial in Port Said and damage to the British Commonwealth War Memorial cemeteries in Port Said and Suez. Foreign Minister Richard G. Cnscy said Australia reserved the right to approprinle redress. He said the memorial- in Port Said had been dismantled either man ually or by dynamiting while headstones were damaged and trees uprooted in the cemeteries.
