A. as the na tion's largest rural church located In the prosperous farming area of southern Idaho plays host to the Mrd session of the Oregon Yearly Meeting of Friends at Greenleaf, Idaho, August It to 23. Board meet ings will open on Tuesday morn ing. This will be the second time that the Northwest Quaker assem bly is held away from Newberg, Ore., birthplace of the historic Friends development, according to L Dell Lamb. Northwest Quaker promotional director. Many Quakers in the Salem dis- Women to Hear Goldie Wells Goldie Ruth Wells, former misionary to Africa, will speak at the Christian Women's Fellow ship breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Aug. IB at the First Christian church. Miss Wells was born in Dallas and was educated in Oregon schools. She received her B.A. degree from the Eugene Bible university and later, while here on furlough, earned her M.A. from the University of Oregon. Her great grandparents were Oregon pioneers of 1852. Miss Wells has spent most of her years in the foreign fields, working in Mondombe, Africa and the Congo Christian Insti tute near Bolenge. She is home on furlough which has been ex tended because of illness. , trict have planned for their vacs Hons to meet the yearly meeting schedules. General business and worship services will be open to the public, but elected representa tives from each quarterly meeting will make up the nominating com mittees which will present names for all official boards and commit tees. The Rev. Dean Gregory, general superintendent of Oregon Yearly Meeting of Friends, will head the delegation from this area and will present his annual report to the church on next Friday. The silver anniversary of the acceptance of the Aymara Indian mission work in Bolivia, S. A . will be observed on Friday with the Rev. Marshal Ca vil, on loan from the World Gospel mission to the Quaker field in Bol ivia, will be guest speaker. The Rev. W. P. Lee, Boise, .president ol the board of missions, will tell of the developing opportunities in the field in his annual report. Leavitt to Give Sunday Concert Gordon Leavitt, son of Teddy Leavitt, former State evangelist will present a concert of sacred music Sunday evening at the Court Street Christian Church at 7 30. Leavitt is a graduate of the Central Washington School of Education and has an appoint ment as vocal instructor on the staff of Bob Jones University Greenville, South Carolina. The theme of the evening program will be "The Gospel in Word and Song" and will also feature Miss Patricia Face at the piano and organ console. Miss Fagg is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stan lev Fagg of Salem. The ministers of the local church cordially in vite the public to share in this program ol sacred numbers. Noted Preacher Here Sunday One of the ablest and most popu lar preachers in America will be puest speaker at morning and eve ning services the next two Sundays a' the Calvary Baptist Church, South Liberty and Miller streets. Dr. J. Whitcomb Brougher, Sr., though long past the usual retiring age, is still in great demand for his platform and pulpit ministry. He has been pastor of some of the largest Baptist churches in Amer ica, serving churches in Boston. Portland, Los Angeles. Oakland and other centers. He has served as president of the American Bap tist Convention and held many re sponsible positions of national lead ership among Baptists. Ho is well known as a humorist whose mes sages are full of life and laughter. He is often called the "Will Rogers of the pulpit," a title which is par ticularly apt because he and the famous humorous were close friends. When Will Rogers met his untimely death in a plane accident, Dr. Brougher was called upon to conduct the funeral serv ice. Dr. Brougher will be speaking this Sunday morning on the sub ject, "A Man's Greatest Ambition" and at 7:30 p.m. his topic will be "Four Looks and a Choice." Ron Esson and his family will be the special guests of the Salem Heights Baptist church, on Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. The Esson's have been working in Malay Balay, Bukidnon, in the Philippines, (or the past (our years, under the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism. Mr. Esson is a pharmacist, and Mrs. Esson a registered nurse, so Iheir work has been largely medical. However there has been much work done in the hidden away villages, in the interior mountain area of Bukidnon. Mr. Esson is the son of Mrs. Edna Esson of Salem. The pastor of the church, Rev.. Elmer Hiebert, will spend this next week as assistant director of the Junior Boys Conservative Baptist Camp, at North Silver Falls Camp.
