Transfer Polio Victim To Seattle Hospital A young Klamnth Falls woman was transferred from Salem Me morial Hospital to Seattle Satur day for extensive therapy treat ment at a Polio Foundation Hos pital there. She was reported in!,lohns Manville good condition at she left on the trip. Mrs. Jean Baldwin, 25, had been undergoing treatment for polio at the Salem hospital for the past four months. It It part of the Salem obser vance of National Beauty Salon Week, rtlending through neit Saturday, which was officially proclaimed in Oregon by Gover nor Paul Patterson. At the tuberculosis hospital 49 ol the patlenlt were given per manent and hair teU and tlx chose haircuts. Fifteen Salem operators went to the hospital to do the work. On the Institutional welfare committee were Virginia K el I 0 g g, chairman, Krirh I.aelich and Vern F.ggeri. Man Unable to Tell How He Was Injured A Salem man was hospitalized Saturday evening with a back sprain, head lacerations and shock after he was found lying near the intersection of Waller street and the Southern Pacific mainline. Harry Hart. 64. 695 South 18th street, was unable to tell officers how he sulfered the injuries but Sunday reported to his doctor that he remembered stepping over the curb when he saw a car coming around tho corner at a high rate of speed. Officers theorized that Hart may the tracks at the scene. The ditch i? several feet deep and liberally sprinkled with rocks, they said. He may have fallen in tlie ditch and iniurcd himself on the rocks when he stepped olf the road, they said. He was reported in good condi tion at Salem Memorial Hospital Monday. Local Paragraphs Derby Meeting Set The Salem Soap Box Derby association will meet Tuesday night at Douglas McKay Chevrolet company to make plans for the 1955 Derby, Director Bill Page announced Monday. Date of the Derby and the opening date fur registration are expected to be set at the meeting, he said. Arrested Karl Lee Jalrl, Salem, was arrested by city police Monday morning on a charge of larceny of an auto. The Marion County District court charge dated back to 1953, police said Arraignment on the charge was scheduled for Monday afternoon. Rings Taken A diamond wed ding and engagement ring set was stolen from the Charles Sea cat residence, 205 East Lincoln street, Friday afternoon, it was reported to city police, Saturday.
