Man Unable to Tell
How He Was Injured
A Salem man was hospitalized
Saturday evening with a back
sprain, head lacerations and shock
after he was found lying near the
intersection of Waller street and
the Southern Pacific mainline.
Harry Hart. 64. 695 South 18th
street, was unable to tell officers
how he sulfered the injuries but
Sunday reported to his doctor that
he remembered stepping over the
curb when he saw a car coming
around tho corner at a high rate
of speed.
Officers theorized that Hart may
the tracks at the scene. The ditch

sprinkled with rocks, they said.
He may have fallen in tlie ditch
and iniurcd himself on the rocks
when he stepped olf the road, they

He was reported in good condi

pital authorities said.
The incident happened about
10:30 a.m. along Mill Creek
near the Salem by-pass, police
