I Millionth Trooper (-( Leaves Le Havre Paris, Aug. 21 VP) The mil lionth trooper to leave Germany since its surrender boarded ship i Monday at Le Havre. He is Cpl. Almon N. Conger, Tacomi, a combat medic of the 35th divi sion. He was luncheon guest of Mai. Gen. Frank S. Ross, European theater transportation chief, and Ma. Gen. Paul W. Baade, divi sion commander. Conger re ceived a plaque, a bottle of champagne md in American girl's kiss the last from Red Cross Worker Nancy Nicholas, Syosset, N. Y. Conger wears the Distinguished Service cross and Purple Heart. Special lighting devices have been developed for inspection of gun bores and shell cases. Justice Douglas Climbs Mt. Adams Yakima, Wash., Aug. 21 m A boyhood ambition cherished for 32 years came true Saturday when Justice W. O. Douglas of the U.S. supreme court reached the 12,300 foot peak of Mt. Ad ams and looked across the wide expense of land to the green Yakima valley where he spent his boyhood. With him were some of his boyhood friends, Curtiss Gilbert, making his sev enth ascent to the peak, Dr. Douglas Corpron, who first taught Justice Douglas the joy of mountain climbing, Douglas and Elon Gilbert, another boy hood friend, as well as the chil dren of the four climbers. In cluded was Bumble Douglas, the son of the justice. The record climb was made by Bruce Gil- Capital Journal, Salem, Ore., Tuesday; August 21, 1945 9 bert, 13-year-old son of Curtiss Gilbert, who made the ascent in five hours.
