Portland Gl Captured 200 With the 7th Army, Germany. June 21 iP How a 19-year-old Portland soldier captured 200 Germans singlehanded after starting out to visit his grand mother in Bavaria, was a leg end in the 45th division today. Pfc. William Haug, Jr., Port land, asked for permission to visit his relative in a nearby Bavarian town after the division had secured Munich. Two miles from the village he ran into an enemy road block complete with machine guns, riflemen, and ba zookas. Both Haug and the Germans could hear an American armor ed division rumbling off to the right flank. When a German of ficer questioned the Portlander, he declared he was an advance scout for the armored column and unless he returned soon the tanks would come and wipe out the nazis. The officer decided to release Haug. But that wasn't enough. The boy demanded surrender of all the men, weapons, and equipment and he got it.
