Jer ome (Jerry) Kosse, a prisoner of war in the hands of the Ger mans since his plane was shot down August 12, 1943, and who was recently liberated, arrived at his home here Tuesday, sur prising his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Kosse. He was in the prison camp 21 months to the day and stated the food situa tion kept getting worse all the time. He now has to be very careful of his diet. After 60 days at home he is to be sent to a rest camp. Jerry graduated from Woodburn high school in 1941 where he was prominent In all activities and was a mem ber of the Woodburn anti-tank company. Prior to his army ca reer he was employed as a boll ermaker for Commercial Iron Works, Portland, Oregon. is , - t Dan Hedrick Unionvale Vernon Coberly, petty officer 2c in the navy, arrived Thursday for a 30 day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth. Coberly. It has been two years since he was home. He left for the South Pa cific war zone in September, 1943. IS received word of his death from the navy department. The sailor, 20 years of age at j the time that he was killed, was I serving aboard a LCS. He at tended schools in Salem and Drain, Oregon, and was gradu ated from the Redmond, Oregon, high school in 1943. Hedrick entered boot training at Farragut, Idaho, July 30, 1943 and took radar training at Wright Junior college, Chicago, the University of Huston in Tex as and at Treasure Island, San Francisco, graduating with the rank of radio technician third class. Assigned to the amphibi ous forces, landing craft, he trained at Little Creek, Va., and Solomons, Maryland. He report ed to his ship at Boston and began his overseas duty in De cember 11, 1944, spending some time at advanced bases until going into combat. Surviving besides .the mother are his father, Hobert Hedrick of Shelton, Wash.; a brother, Cpl. Lyle Phillip Hedrick, an aerial gunner at Rapid City, now home on emergency furlough; grandparents, E. B. Fletcher of Portland and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hedrick of Drain, Oregon; an uncle, Lt. E. R. Fletcher with the signal corps in New Guinea; and an aunt, Miss Lorraine Fletcher of Portland. Brown Wounded Salem army man, wounded while helping assemble a bridge across the Roer river, and back on duty for some time since is Cpl. Robert E. Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward A. Brown. The corporal, now stationed near Berlin with the 9th army, received a shrapnel wound on the forehead. With the combat engineers he has participated in six battles and has been over seas since January, 1944. He has been in the service 26 months. Silverton Lester D. Rue, midshipman taking advance work in the middle west, plans to arrive home on leave, July 10, to see his baby daughter, Gloria Jean who is only a few days old. Mrs. Rue and Gloria Jean will be with the mother of Rue, Mrs. Minnie Rue, for some time, on leaving the Sil verton hospital. eorps, are visiting In Lebanon after having both seen service in Alaska. Capt. Johannsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Johann sen of Lebanon, and his wife came by plane from Fairbanks to Great Falls, Mont., and then went to Kansas to visit Mrs. Jo- hannsen's parents. They arriv ed in Lebanon last week. Falls City Sgt. Ed Sawyer of Fort Lawton, Seattle, spent the past week with Mr. and Mrs. John Wagner. Roy B. Wright of the army signal corps who served almost three years overseas in Africa and Italy is on a 30-day furlough with his wife at Salem. They visited Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.
