STRIKER Pendleton, Oregon Racord-lircaklng Sheep Year, Last winter and this spring gave the sheepmen almost Ideal weather, Grass was left In good condition In the fall and but very little feeding has been made necessary ever since, The lambing season Is now over and the Increase has been record break ing. For Instance, Mr. B. L. Dick Inson stated that one band of 801 ewes gave birth to (30 lambs, the count being taken when the lambs were 15 days old, past all danger of loss, and his other bands made a rec ord almost equally as good. Other sheepmen give out the same story and It is doubtless true that this has been a record breaking year. As regards wool, it is generally conced ed that this year's crop Is the best harvested In 10 years, It Is clean and heavy, and up to the average length. Shearing will begin with some flock- men next week, but others will not commence until the second week In May. The wool market, however, is almost B0 per cent below what It was last year. Wool Is now quoted at 10 cents a pound, last year at this time 19 cents a pound was the price. It Is the opinion of some that wool will be higher In price as the season ad vances. Dayton (Wash.,) Courier. New Upper River Boat. C. A. Lundy of Kennewlck was In the Express office one day last week and In speaking of the fast passenger boat that Is now being built at Seattle for the' up-river trade, Mr. Lundy gave out that the boat would be a 180 horse power gasoline, 12 feet wide and 80 feet ' long, and that 75 passengers and baggage could be com fortably accommodated, beside the mall and the express which It con templates carrying, says the Pasco Express. The boat, which will be known as "The Kennewlck," Is guar- anted to make 16 miles an hour up stream, making It the fastest, by far, of any boat on the run, and where two days are now consumed by the freighters this little craft will make It In a day. The Kennewlck will travel from Seattle to Kennewlck by Its own pow er, making the ocean trip alone from Seattle to Astoria, and from there to Celllo falls, where It will be tak en over the portage and from Celllo make the home run to Kennewlck and Pasco in time to receive its commis sion by the first of June. Fanners' Convention. At the last meeting of the Farmers' Cooperative and Educational union it was announced that the state con vention of that body would be held at this place on May 16 and 16, says the Pullman Tribune. The gymna sium of the state college has been secured In which to hold the meeting of the vast number of, farmers that will be present. Representatives from 140 unions from Washington, Oregon and Idaho will be present, bringing probably 600 members as delegates. A feature of the meeting will be the presence of Chas. Barrett, of Georgia, president of the national or ganization. At this meeting an en deavor will be made to secure the national convention for Spokane next season. If Spokane cannot secure it, Seattle will be in line as the A. Y. P. exposition will be held there to en able delegates to attend the fair. How ever, as Spokane is In the center of a rich body of farming territory, it Is likely that the convention will go there. The matter rests wholly with the members of the national execu tlve committee, and missionary work is being done among the members to get them to name Spokane. IT The people who do not live in this city and yet who "do some of their shopping here," are important to those of our merchants who seek wiuer markets. These people read Pendleton newspapers, for they are "interested in this city," in its news,in its stores.
