A dlHgraceful affair took place at Fifteenth und Alturas streets this afternoon, when after an exciting chase of several blocks an angry wife caught up with her husband, who was out buggy riding with a young lady, and using a horsewhip with great force, administered a severe lashing to the young woman, who was claiming her husband's attention, says the Boise Capital News. The elderly woman was accompan ied by a girl and they were driving a find rig. When they overtook the man and girl, the woman jumped out of her buggy with the whip and after striking the girl with the man a blow or two In the bugsy, the young wo man Jumped from the buggy and at- tempted to run, but was caught by the waist and severely punished. After the girl had left the buggy, the man drovo off at a rapid pace, having hit young companion to the mercies of his angry wife, who exhausted her en ergies In the beating she administer ed. She then climbed' back Into her buggy and drove away, following her rapldly-dlsappearlng husband. Dying Child Cries for Convict Father. Crying for his father, who Is a con vict at the state penitentiary, the 6- year-old child of James Darnell, a member of the MoGlnnls gang of box car robbers, died this morning In a tent on South Front street, says the Yakima Republic. The wife of the convicted car robber ha3 lived ever since her husband has been In the penitentiary on the frugal earnings she has been able to procure and with her child has dwelt In a broken down camp In the south end of the city. The child has been Blck for months. He has begged ever since his Illness to be taken to his father, whose abode Is a narrow cell In the Washington state penitentiary at Walla Walla. The mother Is In despair. Her life has been one of toll and privation since Darnell was taken away last fall. Neighbors have offered the woman assistance In the burying of her young son. It is stated that she Is entirely without money with which to give the child a decent burial. Cigarette Causes lire. Yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock a blaze was discovered In a barn owned by H. Olenn adjoining the band stand In the city park and used by Mr. Sawtelle, a teamster in thli city, says The Dalles Chronicle. The fire company reached the scene with remarkable promptitude and soon had the fire under control, and the yards and park were soon filled with citi zens expecting to see quite a blaze, but fortunately there was no damage done aside from the burning of the shingles o nthe shed roof of the barp which It will cost about 10 to re place. It Is thought the fire was caused by small boys smoking cigar ettes around the barn. It waa '!s covered that the straw and refuse that filled the space Immediately back of the shed had been burning; from thla It Is believed the barn had caught on fire. Bad Indian Arrested. Billy Dixon, the SImcoe Indian who made a murderous assault upon Town Marshal Clarence Adams of Yakima City, on the road to the reservation Thursday night, will be charged with assault and Intent to commit a fel ony, or attempted murder, and the In formation gainst him will be Med di rect by Prosecuting Attorney Wende In the superior court, to avoid the necessity of a preliminary hearing. Dixon has not yet secured counsel says the Yakima Republic. Dixon has a bad reputation. , A few years ago he attempted to hold up Sheriff Edwards while the latte- was riding through Union Gap. The In dian rode up to the Bhcrlff and seized the bridle of his horse. The sheriff pulled his gun and was able to scare the man away without shooting. Pendleton figures In the plans of a new raKroad company that has Just been organized in Washington with a capital of $15,000,000. The Yakima Republlca says of the new company and its extensive plans for connecting the various towns of the northwest: North Yakima Is slated for another railroad which will connect Spokane and Walla Walla with Tacoma. It Is to be known as the Pacific and South eastern railway company. Articles of Incorporation have been tiled at Olymplii, the capital stock be ing $15,000,000 and the purposes as unnounced are to construct railways to coal mines at Wllkeson and South Prairie creek, and by way of Naches Pass or Bear Gap to North Yakima, and thence to Suokane and Walla Walla. The trustees are General James M, Ashton, Tacoma; General Thomas B Hubbard and Thomas Crocker of NeW York, and W. H. Hayden and C. E. Palmer of Tacoma. The plan of the the Incorporators is to run the road up the Puyalluii river valley, through the coal mining district in the vicin ity of Carbonado, then across the Cascades by way of the Naches pass and thence straightway to the east., Branch lines are also, In time, to be constructed to Portland, Seattle, Pendleton and other points. For the pur pose of outlining a plan of campaign to secure the nomination of Hughes for president, New York delegates be gan a conference this morning at the Manhattan hotel. The conference will probably last through tomorrow and a well-defined program will be mapped out. The conference was called by General Stewart L. Wood ford, president of the National Hughes league. Berlin, April 80. Literary societies throughout the empire are holding celebrations today of the centennial anniversary of the publication of the first part of Goethe's "Faust." Loss amounting to $75,000 was caused by fire at Black Bear, a small mining town in northern Idaho, Fri day night.
