A dainty luncheon was served for them during the afternoon. SEVENTY CANDIDATES INITIATED INTO LODGE Umatilla, April 24. Much actlvty is being shown In and about Umatilla this spring. There Is considerable building- going on, and a number of new people are coming In. Mrs. E. C. Bergh, who has been quite ill, is reported as beng consid erably Improved. The new hall has been completed, and It will be opened by a big dance tonight, which will be given by the Redmen. It will be attended by number from outside points, among them being people from Echo and Hermlston. John Swltzler & company are hav ing a large ferry boat built for use on the Umatilla. It will be 16x68 In size, and It will be a beauty. Many Improvements are being made about here this spring In the way of Improving lands, setting out fruit, potatoes, etc. This promises ti be a good crop year In this vicinity. Much new land Is being Improved and things look bright for the future of Umatilla as well as all parts of the west end of the county. Umatilla people expect to turn out to the excursion which will be given to Hermlirton in a short time. Death Was On His Reels. Jesse P. Following the ceremonies an elaborate banquet was served. special car from Walla Walla brought over about 50 members of the Re' bekah lodge at that place. It was decided success. The country about here Is looking good this spring, and there are pros pects for a bumper crop of wheat, fruits, etc. The farmers are very op timlstlc this spring. The opening of Meador park next Sunday promises to be quite an event. The park has been greatly improved In many ways, new dance pavilion, new stands and the like. It promises to be a very popular place of amuse ment durng the summer. Many Wal la Walla and Umatilla county towns win visit the place. All fruit trees are in bloom, and with the many different flowers that are blooming at this time, the coun try presents a very fine appearance. Milton Notes. Milton, April 24. The initiation of a number of candidates Into the East ern Star lodge at this place Wednes day evening was a successful affair. After the ceremonies a program was rendered, and a banquet served. Many members of the Walla Walla East ern Star were here for the occasion. INSTITUTE TOMORROW. Anniversary of Probel's Birthday Celebrated at Normal. Weston, April 24. Local teachers are taking a great deal of Interest in the Institute which will be held here tomorrow for the teachers In this end of the county. A very fine program h;m been arranged, and all efforts will be nut forth to entertan the oafhers In the most loyal way. As Wednesday was the anniversary of Frobel's birthday, a special pro gram was carried out In the Kinder garten department of the normal. The program was thoroughly enjoyed by BASEBALL AT FOCATELLO. Twelve-Team League Is Being Organ, lzed In Southern Idaho. Manager A. J. Pierce of the Poca tello baseball team, is meeting with much encouragement in his efforts to organize a ten or twelve team league In southeastern Idaho to take in Montpelier, Soda Springs. McCam mon, Preston, Blackfoot, Idaho Falls, Rexburg, Sugar City, St. Anthony, Marysvllle, American Falls and Twin Falls, says the Pocatello Tribune. In response to numerous letters written by Manager Pierce to fans in the towns named, offers of assistance were made, and it now begins to look as if the proposed league will be formed. Manager Pierce is firmly convinced that such a league would be a success from not only a finan cial 'but sporting point of view. To the Tribune the said this morning: "With' 10 or 12 teams In the league the element of uncertainty would al ways be present. Playing only Sun day ball, it would require almost the entire season for any one team to get around to play another team a second time. Therefore, if it so hap pens that Pocatello, for Instance, has the strongest team In the league, that would by no means mean she would win the pennant, for some slightly weaker team might win enough I games from still weaker teams to overcome Pocatello's handicap."
