Fltzmaurlce of Dub lin, Ireland, the noted lecturer, who has been In the county for several weeks on a lecturing tour, left this morning for Pilot Rock, where he will lecture tonight on "The Irish Melodies," one of the most entertain ing of his subjects. He has Just lec tured to good sized audiences at Echo, Hermlston and Umntllla and will give a lecture at the M. E. church In this city next Tuesday evening under the auspices of the M. At Weston th third and final local teachers Institute for this county will be held tomorrow and It will be at tended by all the teachers In that vi cinity. Mr. and Mrs. Frank K. Welles leave for Weston this evening. To morrow Messrs. Landers. Owen and Akers will drive to Weston to take part In the program. With superin tendent Welles they constitute a quartet that will be upon the pro gram. The faeulty and students of the normal school will also participate In the Insttlute tomorrow. Some good players have already been signed for the Pilot Rock team and Smith is now negotiating for other players. City Brevities Prominent Man Dies. Portland, April 24. Charles Amos Cogswell, president of the Warner Valley Livestock company of south ern Oregon and northern California, and a member of the city executive board, died suddenly on an interur ban car as he was entering the city today from his home at Mllwaukie. Heart trouble was the Immediate cause of his death. The deceased was one of the best known financiers In Oregon. Resurrection a Fairy Tale. Minneapolis, April 24. Charged with teaching that the story of the resurrection of Christ Is a fairy tale, Rev.' Robert Hammond Cotton, an Episcopalian minister for 40 years, who has built three churches In this state,- was refused t license to preach today by Bishop S. C. Edsall. Killed by Coin Swalloived. 60 Years Ago. Laporte, Ind., Tprll 17. A large copper cent, swallowed 60 years ago today caused the death of James Hurklns, 67 years old. After a celebration that has surpassed any thing heretofore known In this vicin ity, the battleship fleet will resume its voyage northward tomorrow. Santa Barbara will be the next stop, and the festivities that have marked the stay of the fleet at San Diego and Los Angeles ports will be repeated on anelabo rate scaleby the enter prising citizens of that town.. While Santa Barbara Is a comparatively small city, a large fund has been rais ed for the celebration and the nu merous parades, sports and pastimes to be provided for the delectation of the sailors and visitors will be quite up to the standard set by other Cali fornia cities. While suffering from despondency, Mrs. Joe Taylor of Ellensburg drank a quantity of carbolic acid Wednes day evening. Prompt action on the part of friends may result in saving her life.
