Lambert, of Everett, Massachusetts, Believes Stomach the Seat of Life. One of the most Interesting -statements made recently concerning the much discussed Cooper theory, that baa spread over the country during the past year, Is made by E. H. Lambert, a retired business man, whose tome Is at 115 Francis Street, Everett, Mass. Mr. Lambert has this to say In con section with Cooper and his medi cines: "Some time ago I read -an ar ticle about this man Cooper, dn which lie claimed that Btomach trouble was directly responsible for most 111 health, lie went on to say that, although his medicine did nothing but get the stom ach in sound condition, It wonld, In many cases, remove kidney and liver trouble and various other ailments, lie argued from this that the stomach was the main cause of sickness, and stated that the success he has had with his medicines was due entirely to this fact. The Pasco Express says of the be ginning of work on the last lap of the north bank railroad from Pasco to Spokane: Few people In Pasco realized yes terday morning that a new epoch was taking place in the history of the lit tle town that Is destined to become a city within the next few years, yet such was the case. Without any sounding of brass or blare of trumpets, track laying com menced yesterday morning from the material yards at the edge of town with a track-laying train and a crew of 200 men, on the east division of tho Spokane, Portland & Seattle rail road, under the Porter Bros, contract. Foreman McCarthy Is overseeing the work, under Superintendent Pratt. In speaking of the work, the engi neer In charge, D. S. Smith, Informed an Express reporter, who was on the ground, that when completed tho road from Spokane to Portland would be one of the finest In the entire world. The railroad will be rock ballasted. Tho rails of 85-pound steel are se cured to each tie by a reinforced pleee of Iron that clamps the rail and Is embedded In the ties, thus protect ing the ties and at the same time pre venting any spread of the rails that might otherwise occur. With the present outfit and crew track laying will be carried on at the rat? of two miles a day, and all the latest Improvements In track con struction that scientific research ha brought out Is being used both In ma. terlal nnd construction. To those who heretofore have seen no track laying the rapidity of the work of the machinery and men Is as. tonlshlng. For several car lengths a roller track is arranged. alongside the train onto which are placed ties that are carried from the rear to the front In a continuous stream as though they were floated through a flume to the point of operation whom (Tinu ire discharged like cobs from a corn sheller. At this point a sufficient number of tnen nre employed to keep them cleared away and placed In position. The little engine on the forward car that works this machinery also han dles the riteel rails from a crane made for tho purpose. A locomotive near the center of the train is used for drawing power nnd l: almost constantly on the move pushing forward and pulling the con struction train, so rapidly Is the track laying done. in the rear of the train another crew Is kept busy adjusting the ties and rails to their proper place and fastening them down. With the advent of spring and the disappearance of the mantle of snow that has covered mother earth In va rious parts of the state where activ ity was in progress last fall, railroad surveying parties are again In the field, running lines nnd eettinsr trades for proposed routes through various sections of the state, says the Boise Capital News. The greatest activity Is reported to be in southern Idaho, especially In tne uruneau country, where a fore of surveyors has been at work for the past' two weeks running lines and ob taining the most feasible grades along the Snake ricer from Uruneau to Orena. Kellable Information from the vicinity of Grandvicw and Oreana is to the effect that the surveying party Is working along the river be tween these places. The building of a road from Buhl along the Snake river to Grandview and thence through the Bruneau country to Murphy to connect with tho Pacific & Idaho Northern or tap tho main line of tho Oregon Short Line has been agitated at various times during the past five or six years but this Is' the first definite move that has been made looking toward the construction of such a road.
