EUGENE REGISTER-GUARD, Wed,, No. 2t, JS62 Page 9A Eu genean Applies for TV Channel An application has been filed in Washington, D. C, for a construction permit to build a commercial television station in Eugene using Channel 20, an ultra high frequency channel. Making application is Lee Roy McCourry, 1372 Patterson St., Eugene, who said he would devote a large percentage of his programming to educational shows, part of which would be furnished by the Oregon Educational Network, if granted the permit. McCourry, a history graduate of the University of Oregon who. is now in commercial designing business, said the station would be named New Horiion Studios and that he would be the educational director for the station. He would also be the sole proprietor. The transmitter, studio and tower would be located on east 30th Avenue along the new Bloomberg Road. The station would operate with 3.9 kilowatts. There are two UHF channels assigned to Eugene 20 and 26. Channel 26 is open for commercial filings, but Channel 20 is only available for an application from an educational agency, foundation, or from some individual who proposed to operate the station in the interests of education. Eugene school Supt. Millard Pond said the channel has been reserved for educational purposes by the school district and that he hopes to have a District 4 station on the air within the next two or three years. McCourry said he is waiting for clarification from the FCC on the resposibilities of a private individual in operating the reserved channel. A HELICOPTER which can be used for rental or instructional purposes will be stationed at the Springfield airport, according to owner Herb Henderson. Henderson, president of Livingston Air Dusting, Inc., of Eugene and Corvallis, said the two-seat 'copter is ideal for patrol or survey work. He said the helicopter will be the only one leased in this area. A CRESWELL MAN has been graduated from the Western School of Heavy Equipment Operation at Weiser, Idaho. Gary Aprill of Rt. 2 was one of 1? men in the class. The school is owned by members of the Oregon and Idaho chapters of Associated General Contractors of America.
