State Doparlnipnt is making a vigor ous campaign to blnck Mo enw's efforts In pin a propa ganda label nf "anti-Semitism" on the Rosenberg atomic spy case. French and other European Communists had hopped on the death sentencing of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg for be traying American atomic se crets to the Soviets as a smoke-screen for Red anti Semitism which came to light in the recent Communist "show trials" in Trague. The Stale Department was alarmpd by the way the Com munist campaign against the "American hangmen" was catching on even in non Communist quarters. FACTUAL ACCOUNT Their answer has been the distribution in 41 countries of a factual, non-political account of the trial and the verdict, setting forth all the facts and arguments developed by both prosecution and defense. Particular stress is placed on the absurdity of the Com munist charge that the trial was "anti-Semitic." It is point ed out that the judge who or dered the pair sent to death In the electric chair and the prosecutor who asked for the death penalty both were Jews. In Paris, the results of the American counter propaganda drive were .-spectacular, PROMINENT ACCOUNTS Following receipt of the Slate Department's 33-page French-language pamphlet on the case, almost every non Communist newspaper carried prominent, front-page accounts of the trial giving the lie to many of the false assertions the French Communists had suc ceeded in planting in the pub lic mind. Credit for thp U. S. counter propaganda drive belongs to Ambassador James C. Dunn, who ordered his press attache, Benjamin Bradlee, home last month on a special flight to acquaint himself with the facts nf the case to answer an out cry in France against the trial.
