Growers' sales were also slow because dealers were either out of the market or growers were reluctant to sell at present offers. Most prices were unchanged from the previous week. Common ryegrass seed contin ued to move from growers' hands at 6V2 cents a pound. The volume of sales by growers was not up to normal for this time of year. Dealers' sales to the consuming I areas were also below normal I volume. ! Several dealers were reportedly out of the perennial ryegrass seed market during the week ending Aug. 18. While offers as low as 9 cents were reported, the few ac tual sales that were made were at 9 'A cents a pound. No actual hairy vetch sales by I growers were reported last week but offers ranged from 13 to 13 'A cents a pound. Growers' sales of common vetch were made during the week at 5 to 5Vi cents a pound. These prices are lower than a week ago. Sales of blue tag alta fescue were very slow throughout Ore gon last week. What sales were made by growers were within a range of 25 to 27 cents. Dealers were either out of the market for chewings fescue seed or were offering prices ranging from 45 to 48 cents a pound dur ing the week ending Aug. 18. No sales were reported at these quot ed prices. These offers are un changed from the close of the previous week. Austrian peas were selling last week mostly on a feed basis. Of fers ranged from S50 to $60 a ton, machine run, depending upon the amount of dirt content. Most sales were at $55. Sales of Austrian peas on a cleaned basis ranged from $3.15 to $3.50 a hundred pounds. Most sales were at the $3.25 level. Above some of the attractive self-servi? jt Filbert Surplus Set by Board The Filbert Control Board has recommended that the salable percentage for this year's filbert crop be established by the Secre tary of Agriculture at 66 per cent and the surplus percentage at 34 per cent. The board estimated that these percentages will result in a 10 to 15 per cent larger offering of un shelled filberts than domestic out lets have taken in recent years. A minority of the board favor ed still larger offerings in-shell at a meeting in Portland last Fri day. However, the majority ex pressed concern that larger offer ings would break the in-shell market and reduce returns to growers. Salable percentages can be in creased later, if warranted by trade demand. The recommenda tion is subject to review and mod ification by the secretary of agriculture-. Invesimenl Highlight Willys-Overland Motors re ports common stock earnings for nine months of $1.73 a share, as compared with $1.08 earned in the similar period a year earlier. It is estimated earnings of Westinghouse Electric Corp. for the year 1952 will amount to almost $4.50 per share, com pared with $4.03 earned last year.
