Hood. This could be calculated if figures were avail able on the exact direction of the observer from the mountain But since Portland rightly boasts an extent north and south of many miles, the tip of Mt. Hood, only 50 miles away, is not in the same direction from all parts of the city although the sun, 93 million miles distant, would be for all practical purposes. From a location exactly west of the mountain, this peak would hide the rising sun at the time of the equinoxes, which occur around March 21 and September 23. The sun rises due east every where in the world on these dates, but Mt. Hood is not due east of "everywhere." The Eugene man has establish ed from previous observations the days that the solar rising behind the South Sister takes place from his home. He said, "When the sun is half up, its ap parent width is exactly the same as the width of what seems to me to be the base of the moun tain. How can one calculate the width of the mountain?" The Nautical Almanac gives the daily apparent diameter of the sun. On these days under consideration this is about 32 minutes. Applying trigonometry to this figure and the distance to the mountain, we find the seem ing base of the peak is nearly one mile wide. r Registrations Are Delayed Incorrect Fees in Oregon to submit license or title fees in the amounts required by the new legislation taking effect last Aug 2. Most of the delays involve is suance of registration certificates and applications to "clear title' on SDecific vehicles. The 19F1 legislature upped to $2 fees for issuance on transfer of title, refinancing and clear titles, all formerly pegged at $1. Fees for duplicate titles and du plicate registration cards were boosted from 50 cents to $1. Wedding Hour Corrected For Cruzan-Kimball TRENT Members of the Trent Church of Christ are advised that an error was made in the Register Guard story published in Satur day's paper as to the hour of the wedding of Miss Doris Cruzan, to which all members of the church are invited. The wedding is at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Fairmount Church of Christ, not 4 p.m. as erroneously published.
