arena Kertster-Gnard Creswell UHS Comes Up Monday For Annual Civic Checkover CRESWELL The annual meeting of the union high school district 12 will be held at the high school building Monday. June 23, The budget for the next year will be submitted and a director for five years will be elected. E. F. Roberts Is the retiring director, The polls will be open 2 p. m.-7 p. m. " The swimming program began Monday morning. Children are taken by school bus to the Joe Crick ranch in Delight Valley where a large swimming pool has been made available to tnls pro ject which is under the super vision of the Lane County Red Cross. Two instructors are there Jitney Suppet Postponed HEBRON The Jitney supper and social night scheduled for June 21 has been called off due to the death of O A. Nichols, a former master of the Hebron Grange. At the meeting of the Home Economics Club June 13 it was voted to operate a concession at the regatta at the Cottage Grove Lake Aug. 10. The committee ap pointed to be in charge is Mrs. Fred Harris, Mrs. Alfred White and Mrs. Omer Fatten. Nina Chapman, princess spon sored by Hebron Grange for the regatta, came from Corvallis Thursday evening to be one of the honored princesses at the Junior Chamber of Commerce banquet at the Rainbow Cafe, Miss Chapman is attending Four-H Club summer school at Corvallis. Cavello of Seattle and Austin Elwess of Portland were involved in an accident at the in tersection of the highway Monday evening. Elwess, was cited for vio lation of the basic rule and fined $20 in the recorder's court at Creswell. The library committee will have charge of the program at Civic Club Tuesday, June 24. An exhibit of handicraft will be held. Mrs. W. L. Scott, Mrs. E. W. Hoagland, Mrs. E. O. Smith and Mrs. G. N. Post of the property committee are the hostesses. Past Meetlnge A special treat of oyster stew followed the business meeting of Odd Fellows Wednesday evening with the noble grand, Kenneth McCay, as host. He is leaving to make his home near Jefferson but plans to attend as many meetings as possible to complete his year in offfice, A membership drive is planned. Harold C. Johnston was elected to membership by initia tion. J. R. Miller and M. G. MiUer will serve on the refreshments committee for the next meeting. The FL Club met Tuesday eve ning with Mrs. Norman Skaggs. Plans were made for a picnic at Swimmers Delight at the next meeting, cars to leave the Skaggs home at 7 p. m. Mrs. Kenneth Mc Coy who is moving away resign ed as secretary-treasurer and Mrs. Loren Westrope was elected to fill out the unexpired term. A gift was presented Mrs. McCoy. Mrs. William Thomson and Mrs. Barney Doyle entertained - the Presbyterian Aid Society Wed nesday afternoon at the church. A blue and pink shower was held for Mrs. George Gwyther and a gift was presented Mrs. Kenneth McCoy who is moving away. The next meeting will be a picnic, July 18, the place to be announc ed. The school board wonders If this is the reason for the small attendance at the annual meet ing, or if they may be allowed to pat themselves on the back to the extent of saying that the school patrons and taxpayer are so well satisfied with pres ent school administration that they are content. Wanew Tullock was elected di rector for three years, to take the place of Arvid Rothauge whose term expired; while Rothauge and H. A. Mitchell were elected ad visory members for another year. Jim Mitchell will be chairman of the board, and Lottie F. Mitchell was appointed clerk for another year. The budget, as posted at the Addison store, post office, and high school building passed. With the addition of Mrs. Rosabelle Groth of Springfield and Miss Carlene Robinson of Bowling Green, Kentucky, to the grade staff, the teaching staff is com plete. Mrs. Edna McGarvin, prin cipal, and Mrs. Margueritha Harms are returning to the grade staff. Lorane high school teachers are all now visiting in the Midwest, Miss Doris Walker having re turned to her home at Sentinel, Oklahoma for the summer, Mr. Gruber is visiting his mother in Oklahoma, and Mrs. Kathryn Crumbaker left last Saturday for a visit in Kansas. R. A. Vance of South Shore, South Dakota, an old neighbor, is visiting at the L. N. Ashley home. Mrs. A. J. Barker entertained Fri day, June 13, in honor of son Jim my's seventh birthday. Deerhorn OK's School Setup DEERHORN The annual school election for the Deerhorn school district 85 was held Monday at the schoolhouse. For the first time since the new law was passed by legisla ture, a rural school board mem ber for this section of the coun ty was chosen. Glenn Simmons will represent the people of the community. L. D. Shrode was elected to serve as local director for a three- year term. Earl Ramsey is the re tiring director and has served the past three years. Carrol Fountain and Ernest Watson still remain on the board. Laura Koozer was re appointed by the board of direc tors to serve as clerk. The budget was voted upon and adopted as prepared. The amount, 9783Z.30, was in excess of the six per cent limitation by $4323.27. Wood bids for 14 cords of wood are still open and will be received by the olerk, Mrs. Laura Kooier, until September 1. 1947. The playground equipment that tne board had ordered has arrived from Portland and is ready to be installed. Mrs. M. J. Wearln received telegram this week telling her of the death of her brother, Charles Byers, of Milan, Kansas. He has been in poor health for quite some time. In Seotta Valley district, Percy Langdon was reelected- director for three years and Gerald John ston for one year. Board member for Zone D, Lamberson received 14 votes and Tuthill two. Mr. Howard was born in -Yoncalla and spent most of his life here. A severi-pound daughter, Karen Marie, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Rice, at the Mercy Hospi tal in Roseburg, June 15. Al Hoffman is spending the summer with his mother at Cor nelius, Ore. Miss Martha Lanan met her father in Portland where I they attended the Rose Festival. From there they will go to Glacier Park in Montana, before return ing to their home in Illinois. Miss Lanan taught the past year in the Yoncalla High School. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hanan have put an aluminum roof on their barn. Pete and James Schosso are building a new house. I Hugh Warner has rebuilt his barn, I and Andy Curtright has a new I barn. I Clifford Hanan'a sold their house to Donald Guard and I Guards sold their house to Mr. I and Mrs. Maddox. Sr.. of Rose-1 burg. Ernest Thiel is going to I move in part of his garage and has rented his house to Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ash. Mrs. Helen Hunt ington and family moved to Eu gene this week. Mr. and Mrs. Percy Green have bought Mrs. Elmore s property in Yoncalla. Oakridge Hears From Morse OAKRIDGE Mayor Lorenz 7. The Garden Club met with Ger trude Smith this week. Each member is to bring a note book and a question on gardening to each meeting and the information will be permanently filed. The group selected the name of "Oak' ridge Garden Club" and they have affiliated with the Oregon Feder ation of Garden Clubs. It is hoped to have an out-of-town speaker at the next meeting to talk on the growing of iris. Plans are to have meetings in the Christian Church. Mrs. Smith led a discussion on composting. Mrs. Glenn McArthur was wel comed as a new member to Lions auxiliary this week. Mrs. Ger trude Smith gave a report on the Garden t-lub meeting. Madeline Zajanc, third vice president, will be pres ent to accept the charter from the state president. Mrs. Zetta Frieze of York, Neb., is visiting her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Mc Arthur. Mrs. Harriet Munnick, high school instructor, has gone to Charleston, Ore., where she is attending the Institute of Marine Biology. Fred Posey, formerly of Cres well, called on Creswell friends Tuesday. He has recently married and is now living in Idaho. He was accompanied by his brother Ray Posey also a former Creswell resident and now of Pomona, Cal. W, C.
