Ind (U.R) One of thote midwest cornfields where they plowed under the grain to raise a crop of fighting tools now is covered by the sprawling plant of the Allison division of General Motors cor poration, turning out liquid-cooled motors for fighting planes faster than the plane manufacturers can use them. In May. 1939, he site of the Allison works was a cornfield. Eleven months later, the plant had been developed to the point where it was able to keep workers going on three eight-hour shifts i daiiy. It has been working at that j pace ever since, turning out the motive power for the twin-motored Lockheed P-28 and the Bell Airacobra, two of the deadliest fighters in the skies. Kroeger, CMC vice-president and general manager of the Al lison division.
