GUARD, EUGENE, OREGON -Maya, City Council Sessions, School Activities, Community Events List6 City Council Meets Af Reedsporf KEEDSPORT, May 13 (Spe cial) The regular meeting of the city council, usually held the first Monday of the month, was held this week because of the absence of the mayor, recorder, city attor ney and one councilman, who at tended the meeting of the League of Oregon Cities at The Dalles. Authorization was made for the payment of $3000 principal and $2450 interest of the water bonds, due June 1. The mayor and re corder were authorized to execute an agreement for supplying CCC camp No. 228, Heedsport, with water for the ensuing year, and also to execute an agreement with Donald Hagerty for the purchase of fuel oil for the heating plant of the city hall and office building for one year. Permit was granted for an additional 60 days for public dances until the hour of 1 a. m. in stead of midnight as formerly. Dr. E. J. Corcoran reported to the council on matters connected with the recent League of Oregon Cities meeting in The Dalles. Clean up week for the city was set for the week of May 23-28, and the use of city equipment authorized for hauling away collected rubbish. The mayor reported that a new ap plication must be made to the WPA for continuation of the work on the water system, and that a WPA application was being outlined for Improvement of city streets. As several matters In connection with these applications would have to be acted upon by the council, the meeting was continued, subject to the call of the mayor. Thurston has purchased a tractor from Fred Knox and has taken it back to his place to do his farm work. PLAN CLEANUP DAY CRESWELL, May 13 (Special) Sataurday will be annual clean up day in Creswell, according to a decision made recently by the city council. Residents are asked to have all rubbish cleaned up and placed on the curb, in order that It may be taken away. P. A. Main is in charge of hauling the rubbish. Ziniker, William Harcombe; dance. J. T. Kerr, C. S. Scarbrough; booths, Clyde Hollemon, Arthur Olson, J. O. Mortensen, Marvin Kerr, Ted Walkup, Arnold Smith, Frank Clack; program, Myron Blackwell; floats, W. W. Lower, Arthur Olson, K. C. Schwenng; clean-up, Earl Marquart, Ralph Van Kirk, Kenneth Coleman. Frank Clack signed up as a new member. Bills for added equip ment for the fire truck were al lowed. Refreshments were served by Clyde Hollemon, Arthur Olson and J. T. Kerr. Seventeen mem bers were present. Tri-Y Club Planned Af Creswell IIARRISM'RG ITEMS HARRISBURG, May 13. (Spe cial) The Lancaster school will close this week with a picnic prob ably at Benton-Lane park. The school ran eight and a quarter months this year. The teachers, Mrs. Floyd Baker and Miss Maude McEldowney, have been offered their positions again. Moses Gingerich has started on a trip to Toronto, Canada, where he has relatives. He was taken in a car by Frank Kropf. Dr. D. G. Clark has gone on trip to Detroit, Michigan. He will visit with Dr. Koch while there and make a study of the new cancer cure. Mrs. Clark accom panied him as far as Seattle, where she will visit. J. J. Cramer went on a trip to Wisconsin last week. Mrs. Cramer is there, where Bhe has been since the death of her father. Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Vannice have moved to the house In the north part of town which they purchased recently. CRESWELL, May 13. (Special) Plans were made at the regular meeting of the Hi-Y club this week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Blackwell to co-operate with the high school girls In organizing a Tri-Y club. Constitution and by laws will be lent them, and other assistance given. The club voted to continue the meetings during the summer but only twice a month, the place and time to be announced at each meeting. Con tact with other boys for new mem bers will be made before the close of the school year and past gradu ates listed as associate members. A farewell weiner roast for this year's graduates was also planned for Wednesday night, May 18. A pie social was announced for Tues day evening, May 17, at the gym nasium, receipts to be used In pro viding for the summer outing of the club members. Allan Smith was appointed on the advertising committee and Vernon McClary, Marvin Kerr and Chester Elliot on the program committee. William Harcombe, adviser, was present. Rev. Luke Bolin was a guest and he gave a talk to the club. Lunch was served by Chester Eliot and Carroll Bush. Monroe Freshmen Plan Tour Of Eugene, Monday MONROE. May 13. (Special) The 28 members and the ad viser of the freshman class are planning to make an educational tour of &ugene tne coming Mon day and will visit several plants and establishments in the city. Most of the visiting students will attend union high next year and this is a "get acquainted" gathering. Greyhound Bus To Be Chirtened At Junction JUNCTION CITY, . May 13. (Special) The Greyhound Bus line has named one of its new stages, "The City of Junction City" and will chisten it on Saturday afternoon. May 21 at 4:30 p. m. The program was several skits; a solo by Mrs. Harold Turpin, ac companied by Mrs. Lloyd Wise on the piano; a solo by Patricia Perini, accompained by Betty Jo Perini on the piano; and a violin solo by Massimo Perini. A. C. Marsters of Roseburg was the main speaker of the evening. Herbert Roadman of Roseburg and George Vaughn of Glide also gave talks. Refreshments were served to a large crowd. HEWITT CRESWELL, May 13. (Special) -A social evening of games at the home of C. O. Hewitt followed the regular business meeting of Honor Rebekah lodge this week. Mrs. Hattie Groshong assisted Mr. Hew itt in serving refreshments. The occasion was in observance of Mr. Hewitt's birthday anniversary and he was presented with a gift. E. C. MEETS FRANKLIN, May 13. (Special) The H. E. C. met at the hall this week and put a quilt in the frames and pieced blocks. Those present were Mesdames Florence Allen, Rose Stingley, Tina Kirk, Elsie Bryant, Helena Allen, Augustine Hill. Floy Allen, Grace Phillips. An all day meeting will be held next Tuesday May 17, when the quilt will be finished and dinner served to the men who will paint the out side of the hall. FROM LONDON LONDON, May 13.
