People of our com- become involved with the many details of sending and receiving greetings and gifts, details of pro grams being presented by our churches, our lodges and our serv ice organizations. We cannot neg lect any of these matters without a sense of guilt because some of our friends will be left out, or someone's Christmas will be meager unless we do our part. Lest we become all worn out with such busyness and wonder whether we have missed the meaning and purpose of the season, it is well for us to take stock of our activi ties and evaluate them in relation to the true message of Christmas. The time-worn custom of ex changing gifts at Christmas, and the benevolent giving to the poor, munity, and other communities who have heard of the "Babe in Bethlehem born," are being in fluenced by His teachings and example, even though they may be completely unaware of the source of their motives. In ways that may be almost completely hidden from our obser vation, the prophecy of Zechariah (Luke 1:68) may still be in the process of fulfillment, that "God has visited and redeemed his people." The expression from the prophecies of Isaiah, quoted by Matthew (Matt. 1:23) "His name shall be called Emmanuel (which means, God with us)" should take on added significance in our world as we see God's will being done. !: p.m. Lerelta Yeueg "Three and Two. Making the Rounds - NEW YORK unA young actress is making a career out of the play "Career." Mary James played the role of a talent agent when the drama about show business opened to cri tical success off-Broadway last spring. She withdrew from the company to create the same part in a Philadelphia production, then went off to the West Coast whec "Career" was done in Los An geles. Those stints completed, she returned to the original produc tion. 1 The term, "turnpikes," comes from 1795 when long poles (or "pikes") barred privately built roads in Pennsylvania. The "pikes" were not turned up to per mit passages of stages and other vehicles until a toll was paid. 33351300 Tko STAtTUNG FACTS abwar TAXES, arOYEtNMDIT, .
