Soil Meeting Set Nov. 11 at Evans Valley Statessaan News Service SILVERTON The Silver Crek toil conservation district officials will show motion pictures of their work at the Evans Valley Com munity club meeting Friday night, November 11, It was announced by Guy Sanders, program chair man. The program starts at 8 p.m. Austin Sanford, local soil con servation service technician, will how ; the movie Tor Years to Come" which emphasizes the need of a good livestock program on a farm, plus the advantages of con tour cultivation. In addition, Sanford will show "Green Harvest", developed by the West Coast Lumberman's as sociation, showing the Importance and value of farm wood lot man agement. The Silverton chapter of the Isaac Walter League and the Sil ver Creek SollConservation dis trict have agreed to cooperate in Its conservation program. The two groups will arange a big meet lng to be open to the public some time early in the new year. A. T. Cribble, of the local league, at tended this week's soil conserva tion district here. ; In the meantimef district super Visors of the soH conservation area are sending letters to Gov ernor Douglas McKay asking for , the assistance of a state geologist to locate some reported lime de posits in the Silverton vicinity. Sanford reports a "desperate need for lime on most of the hill farms in $Js area." If local de posits for even low grade lime could be located it would greatly assist the establishment of a good conservation program on many farms, he added. Of Pork Theft The purported "pork, barrel" theft -of $60 worth of meat from a valley farm sent three Portland people into Marion county district court Thursday. v Patricia J. Killgore, Charles G. Most changes were fractional, a few one to two or more points. Labor developments, which were mostly favorable, exerted little pull on prices. . S Turnover topped the 1,000,000 share mark once more but was nothing to get excited about Sales of 1,170,000 shares compared with 1,510,080 Wednesday. ;: The Associated Press average of 60 stocks dipped .1 of one point to 67.9. The industrial group held unchanged but rails and utilities slipped. 4; A total of 1.083 issues changed hands,- of which 480 declined and 321 advanced. i " f Gold shares weakened after President Truman came out with strong words to the effect that the administration ' wai not ' con sidering raising the . present t $35 an ounce for gold price. Feed Grains Hit New High CHICAGO, Nov. 10 -)- Feed grains rolled into new high terri tory before their advance stalled on the board of trade today. Both corn and oats ended with small gains, but the final prices on corn were down nearly a cent irom the day's highs. , ? Selling increased in all pits dur ing the final 15 - minutes. Al though the feed grains. kept part of their early advance, other cereals did not. Wheat closed a-1, lower, corn was higher, oats were ',s lower to higher, rye was un changed to Vi lower. . Soybeans were to 2 cents lower and lard was unchanged to 15 cents a hundred pounds higher. Except for one flurry, wheat did little all day. Portland Grain PORTLAND.
