Marilyn Clare to Return to States Friends of Miss Marilyn Clare will be interested to learn that she will arrive in San Francisco on Christmas day aboard the U. S. army transport Gen. D. E. Ault man. Miss Clare, formerly of Sa lem, has been stationed at Seoul, Korea with the United States army military interim government the past year. Enroute to the states Miss Clare will make stop-overs in Hong Kong and Shanghai, China; Yokohoma and Tokyo, Japan, and Okinawa. In San Francisco Miss Clare will be joined by her fiance, William L. Mahnke IV of Washington, D.C , who recently returned to the zone of the interior. The two met in the Orient where Mr. Mahnke was stationed as the American police intelligence adviser to the Korean National government. Both Miss Clare and her fiance will fly to Salem and enjoy a holi day visit with Miss Clare's moth er. Mrs. W. C.Clare, and her sis ter, Mrs. G. 15. Campbell, before returning to the Far East com mand for active duty. Ann Judson Missionary circle of the First Baptist church met Fri day at the church. Mrs. Muriel Curry was program chairman and a skit was presented portraying the various situations that a church caller faces. Salem Visitors to Arrive Salem homes have the welcome sign out for the many visitors ar riving for the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Raymond will arrive in he capital by train Fri day from their home in Winona, Minn., to spend the holidays with their son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Purvine. Mr. and Mrs. John French and daughter, Kathleen, are expected to arrive in Salem Wednesday from Pomona, Calif., to spend the holidays with her parents. Dr. and Mrs. Leon Barrick;. Coming later in the week from Seattle to spend the holiday weekend will be Lt. Comm. and Mrs. Howard Berg man and son, Jimmy, who will be guests of his mother, Mrs. E. E. Bergman, and her sisters and their families. Arriving in Salem Thursday to be holiday guests of Dr. and Mrs. Burton A. Myers at their country place at Eola will be his aunt and cousin. Mrs. Rhoda Gibson and Mrs. Coral Melanson of Los An geles. Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Drysdale, who recently moved back to Sa lem, are expecting their sons home for the holidays. Douglas, a stu dent at Cascade college in Port land and resident of the freshman class, has arrived home for theT Christmas vacation; Others expect ed are Mr. and Mrs. John Drys dale of Engene, he a student at the University of Oregon, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Drysdale of Yreka, Calif., and W. G. Drysdale of Eu gene. Troop's First Birthday Brownie troop No. 32, with Mrs. G. R. Boatwright leader, and as sisted by Mrs. Joe Zajic celebrated the troop's first birthday at the I regular meeting at the Englewood church. The troops new commit tee, Mrs. Russell Beutler, Mrs. Clyde Johnson, Mrs. Vern Rei mann, and Mrs. Orville Cox were hostess. After games and songs, a birthday cake was served to the Brownies. The tables were festive with arrangements of hol ly, greens and red candles. Josephine Albert Spaulding sang a group of Christmas carols. The interesting program was given by Miss Jessie Fairham of Kent, Eng land, who told of Christmas cus toms in her country, and Miss Sylvia Kjeldstad of Oslo, Norway, who talked informally of Christ man in Norway. Beta Sigma Phi Initiation Held Pledges were initiated Monday night into Alpha Epsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, international cultural and social sorority, at a candlelight ritualistic service at the Salem Woman's club. Mrs. B. Paris Zehntbauer, field representative from the sorority's headquarters in Kansas City, Mis souri, directed the rites, assisted by Miss Edith M. Kyle. Mrs. Billie O. Bishop. Mrs. William W. Bridal Plans Revealed Plans have been completed for the Christmas Day wedding of Miss Virginia Covert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Peterson-Morss Vows Read A bride of the pre-Christmas season was Mrs. Josephine Morss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Jones, who was married to Urban Hugh Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh E. Peterson, all of Sa lem, on December 11. The cere mony took place at the country home of the bride's parents at the 4:30 o'clock nuptials. Mr. Jones gave his daughter in marriage and for her wedding she chose an olive green crepe suit and corsage of Talisman roses.
