Cross, Portland, who pleaded guilty to a charge of ob taining money by false pretenses, was sentenced to six months in Marion county jail Monday by Marion Co u n t y Circuit Judge George Duncan and placed on two years probation. Cross waived grand jury hear ing. He was charged with cashing a worthless $10 check in Salem on Oct. 19, 1947. Salem Trucker Wins Safe Driving Award Vera Hasbrook of Salem, driver for Consolidated Freightways, gained act award for five years of safe driving at the lines' annual award dinner in Eugene Saturday night, according to T. Edwards, Isom Butcher Plant Changes Hands Ownership and operation of the Edwards and Isom custom butch ering plant, 25th and Mission streets, was assumed Monday morning by Milton Van Zanten, operating of the meat markets in two Saving Center stores in Sa lem. The firm will now be known as MonArk Meat company. Van Zanten announced plans to broaden the plant's activities into packing for the wholesale market. It will also add sausage making and will continue custom butcher ing. The firm was started in 1930 by Berton E. Edwards, now in the cold storage locker business at Keizer, and Norval E. Edwards, his son The plant burned in 1934 and was rebuilt in 1935. The younger Ed wards has operated it since then. He said he would open some new business here. Clarence L. Townsend ranch in Mission Bottom. The animals were purchased by Paul Townsend. son of L. Town send, to add to the 40 animals al ready on the ranch. The bull came from the Skiles ranch at Wilsonville, Neb., and hei fers from Frank Robinson it Son at Kearney, Neb. v P " " m IjsJ ? imp Keizer Pupils Give Pageantj Of Christmas KEIZER, Dec. 20-More than 150 boys and girls took part In the first Keizer school Christmas pro gram here tonight. The Christmas story was presented in a series of pageants against a background drawn by Gladys Burch which the pupils painted. Second section of tne pupfit and parents will have their turn Tues day night Included in the cast are all first and second grade pupils. Half from each grade took part tonight and the other half will be there Tuesday night. Members of the 17-piece orches tra which played for the pageant were Evan Hitch, Reba Small wood, John Gettis, Norman Warg nier, Bert Ridpath, Janet McCue, Juanita Keppinger, violins.
