Consensus or local opinion, after comparing the posi tions of rival clubs in respective leagues, holds that Ted Gul tic's crew will make it six out of seven in Monday's running. A return game is planned in Portland early next month. Managements of both clubs have vowed; they will "shoot the works" in Monday's mix. Most generally such exhibition games find' the teams throwing patched lineups and secondary pitchers at one another. But not so in the Salem-Portland clashes. In past games both sides used lineups at full Strength and called upon their very best pitchers available. And now that Portland and Salem have become so closely related in baseball, the rivalry is expected to be so much the keener. Mgr. Marv Owen's Beavers could throw at the Salems orSe of the former Senator whizzes who before the war took much delight in hurling against, and beating the Coast leaguers. He would be Southpaw Roy Helser, right now owner of the best w on-lost rec ord on the Portland club. But in stead the Bevo skipper has nom inated another lefthander for Monday's chore, highly respected Wandell Mpssor. And if it Isn't Mossor it will be Vince DiBiasi, the brand new righthanded ac quisition from the New York Yan kees. Skipper Gullic has named Ed Kowalski for Slem, with Long Lee Fallin as relief. Should Fast baller Eddie be "on the Beavers are sure to find victory hard to let. Mon.
