11. 't Servicewomeri Miss Genevieve Catherine Whelan of Salem, a " newly en listed WAVE, Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Whelan, 405 Marion street Miss Whelan graduated from Stayton high school in 1940 and later attend ed the Capital Business college. Since completing her high school and business education, she has been employed by the state in dustrial accident and state un employment commissions.' She also was active in the local USO and is a member of the Oregon Women's Ambulance corps. WAVE Whelan will be one of the platoon of SO recruits from the district. First duty station for WAVE Marjory Pratt, Seaman second , class, is at Mercer field in New Jersey. She works in and around navy bombers, testing and check ing instruments. . : Miss Pratt enlisted in the WAVES in March, 1944. The Dlatoon will travel via special railroad car from Port land to the naval women's train ing school in New York. Large Forest Area Set Aside SWEET HOME, Aug. 12 Dedi cation of 3000 acres of Oregon for est land Saturday brought to more than 500,000 acres of privately owned forest lands in the state and 8,000,000 in the United States. More than 100 Oregon lumber men were present here Friday night when Ellsworth Harris, Ore gon congressman from Roseburg, dedicated the newest tree farm. It is located along the Santiam river in Linn county. Owners of the land are Lebanon Lumber Co., Powers Davis Lumber Col and Santiam Lumber Co. Aumsville Woman Stung by Bee When In Peach Orchard AUMSVILLE Mrs. T. C. Moun tain was stung by a bee when she went to a peach tree in their back yard Thursday to pick ripe peach es. Within a few minutes an intol erable red itching rash spread over ; the entire surface of her body and she was very ill for several hours, but was in almost normal condi tion Friday.
