listed WAVE, Is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Whelan,
405 Marion street Miss Whelan
graduated from Stayton high
school in 1940 and later attend
ed the Capital Business college.
Since completing her high school
and business education, she has
been employed by the state in
dustrial accident and state un
employment commissions.' She
also was active in the local USO
and is a member of the Oregon
Women's Ambulance corps.
WAVE Whelan will be one of
the platoon of SO recruits from
the district.
First duty station for WAVE
Marjory Pratt, Seaman second ,
class, is at Mercer field in New
Jersey. She works in and around
navy bombers, testing and check
ing instruments. . :
Miss Pratt enlisted in the
WAVES in March, 1944. After
her "boot" training at "Hunter
college in New York City, she
was assigned to her present duty
station. ,
Seaman Pratt has made sev
eral trips in navy bombers,

for the WAVEs. Daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Ralph Yeoman of route
2, Independence, enlisted recent
ly and will ship out early this
fall with the Salem area's spe
cial platoon Of SO WAVE volun
teers, now being recruited from
throughout this territory.
The Dlatoon will travel via
special railroad car from Port
land to the naval women's train
ing school in New York.
A native of Brogan, Ore., Miss
Yeoman graduated from Stayton
high school and then attended
Oregon College of Education. For
several years she has been
teacher.

AUMSVILLE Mrs. T. C. Moun
tain was stung by a bee when she
went to a peach tree in their back
yard Thursday to pick ripe peach
es. Within a few minutes an intol
erable red itching rash spread over ;
the entire surface of her body and
she was very ill for several hours,
but was in almost normal condi
tion Friday.
She says this was the strangest !
