At the -special session of the eity council held at the city nail Mon day night several ordinances were presented by the ordinance com mittee and given readings. Aside from the beer bill, anoth er deals with livestock running at large and another with the burial of oil tanks. Karnes of drives on Klngwood terrace came in for consideration and it was decided to change the name of a portion of Cascade drive to Piedmont avenue, change a portion of Rlverview to Terrace drive, and to give a short new private driveway connecting the present Cascade drive aad .the Glenn Creek road, lying outside of the city limits, the' name of Cas cade drive. It is requested that those who have requisitions for seed for vegetable gardens get it at onee frci the residence of George Chapman facing the schoolhouse on Third street. Mr. Chapman states that numerous lots hare even been plowed and harrowed. and with seed donated by the Red Cross and plots loaned, each family should at least have a good garden this summer. The Boy Scouts took a hiking trip - Sunday to the cabin site where they made cooking and other tests and demonstrations. On the Cook ranch situated be tween the Glenn Creek and Orch ard Heights roads In the Polk county hills, a site has been pro vided for a camp cabin, and mem hers of the Boy Scouts will erect the building this spring and sum mer. They had an nnforgetable experience la the earthquake that was so vi olent that It crashed their heavy piano through an interior wall of their home twice, broke every dish in the cupboard and did oth er damage. The trial of Albert Wlnkleblack on a charge of assault with a dangerous weap on came to an abrupt close Tues day afternoon when Judge Arlie G. Walker sustained a motion of the defense to rule out-a witness. The state had Just started present ing its . evidence when Robert Kreason, attorney for the defend ant, objected to Louise Stump be ing used as a witness oa the grounds that she was of unsound mind. aad not competent to be a witness. . District Attorney Barn hart mov ed for a dismissal of the case as treasurer, Mrs. Busby; auditor. Mrs. Elmer Addison. This was the last meeting of the year. . Miss Stump was the state's star witness. Winnleblack was Indicted last week on the charge of assault with. a dangerous weapoa with Miss Stump as the complaining wit ness.
