Oregon, Thursday Morning, March 21. 1929 Lovely Colors and Styles Replacing Neutral Patterns in Spring's Designs Neat, Snappy Designs With All Sorts of Com binations Appear to Reviewer of Modes; Colors Gayest for Many Seasons If you are one of those shy, re tiring persons who look longingly at gay togs, then buy something plain and mousey, yon will hare a hard time of It this spring, we fear. For color and pattern, are too important in the fashion fore cast to permit you to go about In eeutral costumes. You must tell a story In print, if you would be Interesting. And whatever best expresses your per sonality may be shown through the color and design you choose. ' VUAT DESIGNS SEEN There are neat, snappy little designs, wee florals massed and scattered; geometries and all manner of plays on dots and checks ob pussy willow and pussy willow erepe for tailor-type cos tumes. More dashing, designs re flecting the tempo of the times aod the out-of-doors appear on the shantungs, the heavier weaves of khaki-lcool and silk and wool erepe Ibis. For formal afternoon and eve ning ensembles, when the return to frills and flounces emphasises the charm we associate with all that is truly feminine, there are larger, more striking prints the exotic florals and designs charac teristic of the modern trend. But this season motifs and colorings are mellowed and softened so that they appear subtle rather than dominant upon filmy chiffons and Indestructible chiffon voiles. COLORS FANCY For those who like contrast and a touch of plainness, however, the print costume compromises with out losing a whit of prestige. All these schemes made use of colorful' patterned walls, and of late Interior decorators have shown a tendency to return ' to this treatment, adapting It to homes. suit both period and modern As a return compliment the new papers are showing their ap preciation of the honor by. giving decorators lovely and unusual mo tifs around which to work.
