At a certain foreign oniversity the students, who had been study Ins Shakespeare in their native tongue, were requested by an ex aminer to translate into English the opening lines ot Hamlet's so liloquy, "To be, or ot to be." The following was the result: The first Frenchman declaimed, "To was. or not toi am": the sec ond rendered it, "To were or is to not," while the third, ga-ve still more liberal reading, "To should or not to wilL". i for the ensuing year: . President, Frances Hatch. v First vice . president, Pauline Jobes. Second Tlce president,1 Amanda Howe. Third Tice president, Viola Lane. Fourth vice president, Mrs. Aus tin Ricketts. The regular devotional-meeting at 7:00 p. m. Mrs. Florence A. Wolfe brought in some very tine single bloom srjecimens of ceonv dahlias this week, the colors ranging from a light cream thrugh all the shades of yellow and including some deep true - reds, also some exceptional blooms of pink and purplish pinks. The blossoms were all very large. measuring several inches across, and were handsome enough to con vert any flower lover into a dahlia enthusiast. Some ot , these were seedlings grown by Mrs. Wolfe alone, others were from named varieties. The first meeting of the local Parent-Teacher Association ' will be held in the high school auditor ium the last Monday night in Sep tember, being the 28th, at 8:00 p.m. . , The . incoming president, Mrs. Raymond Criswell, urges all the old members to begin the year by attending the first meeting, and extends a cordial invitation to all new ; arrivals In the Community who are interested in the welfare of the schools, and especially the parents of children, to be present and become members. , The 20th annual convention ot the Oregon Parent-Teacher Asso ciation, Incorporated, branch of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers, will be held in the i 1 Portland. October 27-28-29-30 Whatever plans the local associa tion desires to make for repre sentation will have to be made at the September meeting, or a spe cial meeting-called for the pur pose. Falls City had a large rep resentation at roll call on Thurs day ot the tate convention last year, and made good showing in number of members. ! The Community Fair Is still a very engrossing topic of conversa tion among the older residents. They didn't think we could do It. We had the exhibits to back' our assertions that ths community is the Center of Natural Resources. Th display ot the Falls City Can ning company was splendid. The iruit snown was from cans se lected - at random- from the stock stored in the warehouse and ready for shipment, not anything select ed fori the occasion. To the ladies of the committee and to others, who, while' not members of the Commercial Club, worked untiringly tor the success the thanks of the Commercial Club is given." : -." " .' ,-: y i. . . -t'v Special mention should be, made of the fact that those making en tries in all departments . made their exhibits from their gardens.' canned goods, jellies, fruits, and needl ework without having planned very far ahead for this display, so the exhibits were rep resentative of the everyday work rather than something specially prepared as is usually the case. Taking this fact into consideration makes the showing all the more remarkable. We had a Fair to be $roud of. The display would have been a credit to a much larg er ommunity. In fact, so far as we Vent our display equalled that at the Polk county fair. An explanatidn is due Mr. Cleve of his collective farm - exhibit In last! week's Enterprise the initials used were those of bis brother. Clarence, who lives in ValSetx. W. C. Jewell did the farming and, had the display to prov it. If every , farmer ; In this community would make an equally good showing next year we would have to move to the State Fair grounds to house the exhibits. Mr. Powell had not planned for this exhibit untiriate the day before the fair, so went into the garden, field and orchard and secured the samples, nothing was grown for exhibition pur poses. , ..'(; - Falls City, Magnolia Rebecca lodge No. 140 won first prize in the yearly contest for work in district No. 9.
