The Tlileboet is equipped to handle passengers, is a new boat and has an average speed of 11 sea miles when loaded. The service will give Portland ship pers direct connection with the Dutch Indies and the Straits. At present cargo for those ports is trans-shipped on the China coast. One of the sites selected Is in East Vancouver, and the other on the west side of the military reserve, lnalde the city limits. The committee in charare is ooniiaent tnat Vancouver can show spe cial advantages, which include trans portation facilities, attractive building sites ana pure water. During the year 1921 the mills of St. Helens shipped approximately 100,000,000 feet of lum ber. Of this amount 66,801,000 feet went to California ports, 11.(80.000 was shipped to Atlantic ports, and 14.C50.0O0 to foreign ports. The shipments by rail from the several mills amounted to 7,2(7,000 feet. The shipments of creo- soted lumber and piling and green pil ing were approximately 10.000.000 feet. During the year 141 vessels called at this port for partial or entire cargoes. A N. Berry Is a graduate from the school of pharmacy at the University of Cali fornia. After his arrest here he waa tried in the circuit court and committed to the asylum in Salem.
