Inauguration of The Journal's seaplane express delivery to Clatsop county points, notably to Sea side and' Astoria, promises to be oils of the most novel features of the summer season at the beaches as well as a com mercial Innovation that marks an epoch tor the coast cities. ? . u Regular dally trips of the seaplane ex press carrying the first afternoon edition of The Journal to subscribers at Seaside were inaugurated Wednesday. The express service, first to be regu larly established for newspaper circula tion, made its first : regular trip , on Wednesday, leaving the O. W. X. basin at Portland promptly at 1 :30 pi. m. Dally at that liour the big birds will rise from the river at Portland and not more than two hours later The Jnnrnsi will have arrived at Seaside and deliv erea to journal carriers and newsboys. The express Is a Journal departure, in line with its constant endeavor toi Im prove Its circulation service. I The practicability of the unique Jour nal, service and its great commercial tmportae have been conclusively at tested by the performance of the planes during the first week. The remarkable time record established by the planes Is an Interesting feature for hot more than X hour and 45 minutes has yet been re quired for the flight from Portland to Seaside. The road is being built from Tillamook City along the bay, and, when completed, will be one of the beauty spots of the coast. Captain Lt E. DeRock has installed regular boat service across the Ay and win meet all of the incoming trains. His boat, Dorothy May, is a larger and stronger boat than was operated the past season, and is well equipped for passenger service. The boat ride across Tillamook bay is a pleasant part of the trip for travelers to and from Bayocean. This, together with the scenic beauty along the railroad through the Willam ette vaUey, the deep gorges of the Coast mountains, with their roaring mountain streams, Tillamook: bay and the ocean trip to Bayocean. is one to be remem bered. Although the season is still very young, many of the cottages of this beach are already open, and Indications point to one of the busiest seasons in several years. "The completion of the new highway ; Into Manhattan, ; which is expected in the near future, will add a second means of access to this beach, and make it still more attractive to motoring parties.'
