D.. will be represented in Portland by 225 mem bers of whom 85 are uniformed members of the Kem patrol, band and drum corps. The party is due to arrive Monday morning. . . , . j., Kem temple received its dispensation In the year 1910 and until 1913 was housed in its own building;, which burned during the winter of that year. Un daunted by this loss. Kem temple imme diately proceeded to erect its present noma welch was dedicated in the year 1915. . ; . . v.' .The membership of Kem temple is be tween 1500 and 1600. , Kem patrol consists of 24 men and two officers. Under the captaincy of Albert Llnd8trom. the patrol that will visit Portland has made wonderful progress. Through the efforts of Noble Gus i R. Jacobi, Kem temple was organised for the second ceremonial ever held by Kem temple in the spring: of 1911 and., has been continued without interruption since that date. - j v The Kem temple drum corps is a com paratively new organization making fits first public appearance at the cere monial in May, 1920. Wilder, 'whose death ended his duties . oeiore tne expiration of his term. -r- Hella Temple of Dallas Has Record For Achievement Hella temple of " Dallas, Texas, was organised in June -25, 1888. The original dirpensation was granted May 31. 1887. The temple has shown a 'steady srrowth ever since and 'has been noted fori its cnarltable activities. In 189& Hella en tertained the imperial council at Dallas, enu again in 1913. The record of i the Dallas meeting of the council - has eone down in Shrine history, reflecting: credit liot onty on tne temple but on the citl sens. In 1308 the HeUa temple, patrol was organised, seven in number; This has new increased to 40 members, under W-n leadership of Captain W. R. EH is. During the war . Hella remitted I all Slues to its members in military service, raised, an emergency,, fund for assisting Ita service men, contributed atxfut $7000 to the Red Cross and purcahased $75,000 of Liberty bonds.. Hella was the first temple in the state to prohibit the serv ing of Intoxicating liquors at its func tions. Hella has a benefit fund for the use of its members. Powers, chairman of the Shrine automobile committee. , Satur day night issued an additional appeal for Portland motorists to rally to the aid of the committee : in furnishing cars for visitors Monday. Monday will be the most important outing day. for the visitors, because practically all the patrols and bands, besides the delegates, will be in with no sessions to attend. Later in the week there will be less oppor tunity for sightseeing. . , . , 7 "I wish to urge as strongly as I can the need of more automobiles. Powers said. "Portland owes it to the visitors to show them the high way. "We have far. too few so far pledged. Ar arat Temple of Kansas City Will I &tertain Preceding the actual opening of the Shrine convention this week, members of the Ararat temple of Kansas City, Mo., have planned a minstrel revue and band concert to take place in The Auditorium at 8 p. m Monday. . The Kansas City ' delegation. number ins almost 200. will be among the early arrivals in Portland this week. Their train will be parked in the local yards at 6:30 o'clor t Monday morning. ' UNTO YOliJ BE PEACE Police Determined , To Do Their Share For Shriners ' Week Portland police are determined not to be outdone by their fellow citizens in according a welcome to the Shriners. The police station, is all, "dolled" up. The patrol wagon' drivers determined not to let the clerks gd them -one bet ter, so they procured a special set of lens for the patrol auto headlights, with the Shrine emblem "engraved" Hhereon. The semaphore poles of the traffic men have also been painted red, green and yellow. ,'-" I The chief, two captains, a lieutenant, several sergeants and a large number of the uniformed and detective force have been admitted to the Mystic Shrine.' Woe be unto the crook who tackles a Shriner when one of. these bluecoats is around.' , Eastern Shriners Will Get Glimpse Of Oregon Cowboys Shriners of the effete East, who-think that cowboys, stage coaches and other standbyS of the "wild and woolly," extHt only for the movies, will have . another thought after the Pendleton patrol gets through rounding them up, says T. v. Boylen. who U here with 42 . mounted riders from the plains and mountains of Oregon. Saturday morning the Pendleton rid ers appeared on the streets mounted on range horses,' which are. considered the cream of . the roundup. The Shriner cowboys picked the horses that are good saddle and roping mounts on te ratine. ana some or mem are -oaa actors. - The cowboy -patrol broeght a stags coach aJeng, and during the next three days will be busy escorting viaitors to their : headquarters. The rough riders will also appear In all the parades, and will play a leading role in dragging "wild steers" out or the noreu. Exhibitions of fancy riding and roping, will be given by the Pendletonians. The advance guard of the Eastern Oregon patrol arrived Friday. Members of the first party were: W, E. Brock, deputy potentate. Al Kader temple; T. V. Boy len, Jim Sturgts, F. W. Bond, Ouy Wy rick, J. O. Hales, Bert Warren, Dave, Nelson. Lyman Rice, W. A. Slusher, Pan Clark and Sam' Thompson. Musical Comedy to : Feature Trip West Kaaba temple was the first to be or ganized west of Cleveland, Ohio. Its home Is in Davenport, Iowa, and it came Into existence in 1878, making it now iX years old. Its membership totals 3500. Kaaba will- bring a band of 30 mem bers and a patrol of 33 nobles to Port land, besides ,300 members from Daven port, under the Illustrious potentate, Charles E. Robeson.
