The report has been submitted to the members of. the Ore- fon & Washington Lumber Manufac urera of Portland and the Pacific Lumber Manufacturers' Inspection bu reau, and will in all probability be acted upon zavoraDiy Dy moss two or ganizations. - In case this is done the Oregon & Washington Manufacturers will Insist that offices of the central bureau be maintained at Portland, Grays Harbor euner ADeraeen or Hoquiam at euner oemue or jacoma ana at coos pay. Payors Independent Inspection. The Oregon & Washington bureau has lavorea ana usea independent inspection for some time in preference to mill in spection and acted on the theory that the buyer of lumber has as much riant to be represented in the inspection as the seller. The proposed Independent inspection bureau will be made up of representatives of all the interests con cerned and in that way It is believed the dissatisfaction with the present system of lumber inspection will be eliminated. On the committee appointed to con sider the question were Messrs. Ward of the American Trading company. Comyngs of Bowrlnr 4 Co., and O. J. Moore of the J. J. Moore company as representatives of the Australian buy ers, and Messrs. A, A. Baxter of the BeiUngham iiay Lumber company, Chesebrough of the Tacoma Mill com pany, and J5. K. wood of the E. k. ' ro On Bureau. "I stated to the members of the, ex change that the Oregon lumbermen were anxious to have one bureau," said Mr. Wastell this morning, "and that our method of maintaining a corps of In dependent tallymen and Inspectors has rlvea independent representation on every vessel loading at mills of our membership and that we desired to as sure them of our active cooperation in their effort and that fair consideration would be given to any suggestions the buyers might make. I was very much gratified to find that It was not nec essary for us to explain at great length as our good work had preceded us. "It appears that at the first meet ing when the committee was appointed it was stated on the floor of the ex change that the Oregon & Washington Lumber InsDectlon bureau had tVn the rfght step in the direction of in-1 dependent inspection when organised and had given good satisfaction on Its export business. This Is a complete vindication for Columbia river timber but a nrime rnnuitilte la r-rfn1 anil uniform manufacture to maintain our prestige. "I am confident that from our In spection bureau will evolve a great In spection bureau, taking In the entire northwest which will be a great fac tor In the development of our export trade and which shall haVs the confi dence of both buyer and seller. If this is to result sectional differences and Jealousies will have to be burled and with the creation of a spirit of mutual confidence between manufac turing districts and buying districts and the establishment of uniform grades throughout the shifting of in spectors and tallymen from district to district muon good will result In In creased business and satisfactory set tlements." place, besides making himself obnoxious I two ,r ?"?, dai" at.a "m,a-.
