(Special Dlapatch to Tha Jonraal. Pendleton. Or., Oct; 26. Settlers In the Hermiston valley are rejoicing- over the fact that water has been turned into the' big government ditch which will feed the Cold Springs reservoir, the water to be stored for use durlna- the summer of 1909. . v The water Is now runnlna- thrniiarh me concrete section or tne feed canal, recently rebuilt. The - temporary dams which nave held back the seepage-from tne new concrete lining have been re moved, and within a few days the water will be pouring over the big In let drop into the reservoir. The water was turned In with a small head, and It will be some time before the dtch will be carrying Its full caoacltv. The fact that the government ia able thus early to begin storing water In the big reservoir Insures a full supply of water- to tne i matiua project. The en gineers estimate that It will take 100 day', flow to fill the big reservoir, with the dltch carrying Its capacity. . It Is believed that by early February the storage will have been completed. This done, the government will turn the waters from the river Into theodlstrlbu tlon system direct, through Its "by pass dron,'' and as soon aa the settlers are ready for water it may be delivered to them direct from the river up until along early In June, when the river usually goes so low that further supply from mat source is impossiDie. 3IEXICAN WEDDING WITH ALL THE FRILLS made of the steam-cooked. halted in . f h ?. r.lnnecf 1 - f intf food factory in the .world Oused by invalids and: athletes because it presents the greatest amount or strength-giving ma- a terial with , the ; least ) tax upon S the digestion.
