By th lining trade the advance haa jbeen xpected aince laat Wednesday when the econd of a very sharp advance occ urred in eastern sugar prices. While o aonte the advance was aomewhat of surprise owing- to the record-break-ng-crop in the Hawaiian Inlands, the net that other world'a producing aec. ions ahows a decrease, waa what tilted .' he scale of the market upward. Mixed Ton In Egg Market. ' There ia a mixed tone fa the local gg market, wnlle those m.uw.ve mly occasional shipments o local aock are able to secure . 40c a doian or strictly fresh local stock, those who ecu re most of the shipments aay they ire unable to net 40c, their regular rade refusing to purchase because thoy tiiied tney could buy elsewhere at low r figures. Some of the trade accuaae he others of substituting eastern stock 'or Oregon eggs and thereby cutting irlces on the aly. In any event all he money in the egg busineaa at the present time la being made by the Handlers OI eastern stock. The fac. that more eastern eggs ar rived In Portland during the past week than in any similar period In recent years, shows just why these high prices were Quoted on local good. The higher the local price waa sent, the greater profits to handlers of eastern eggs. Chicks Market Za Steady. There is a steady tone in the local chicken market. While the ' receipts were somewhat better than expected last week, the demand was sufficiently increased to take up all offerings at 12c for mixed Jots. Those who wanted to clean up at thla figure could have done so, but some expected a higher price but did nat secure it ana were' notloeable In the - demand for hogs. cows and sheep. - - There la a very 'lmlted call for cattle and that ia the only branch of the local llveatock mar ket that continues to reflect the bad features of last week. ; - The run Of llveatock 1 over Sunday waa small and Included SO hogs and 1(0 cattle. No sheep arrived In during the past 48 hours. The smaller run seems to Indicate that the heavy offer ings -which so completely upset the values a week ago, are at an end. .. While no changes In hogs and sheep are shown at thla time tne trade is pre dicting an advance especially In the latter market. In the cattle market the dullness and weakness is so Intense today that best steers will not bring more than $3.76. Cows are firm with best stuff experi encing little difficulty in moving around s. " Bed Blood la nowlngr Again. "Good, red blood is flowing again in the veins of the livestock market with the possible exception of steers, which are extremely ami ana lower. says a. P. Gould of Gould A Benson today. "The demand Is so much better than last week that the improvement in tone is easily noticed, cows are in excel lent inaulry and too prices ' are still secured for select stock." . ; lAmal. Cop. Co.
