' t The dock Is to be built at the foot of Philadelphia street, where the city has purchased 400 feet of waterfront, 200 , feet on each aide of thia street which la 100 feet wide. The area also Includes New York street, 60 feet wide, making the dock frontage 640 feet The struc ture is to be 100 feet wide. Of the total length of 640 feet 440 will be Inclosed, the remaining 109 feet bwlng uaed for river steamers. " t"w Tha new dock is to be built from the proceeds of the sale of $60,000 worth of bonds voted last spring. This amount will pay for both the site and the dock. The alte cost the city 123,500. It was purchased from M. L. Holbrook, who SO days after the sale waa offered a price $10,000 in excess of that offered By the city for the property. Members of the city council Lave conferred with Port land shippers and have contracts in sight that will practically pay at least the Interest on the bonds as soon as the dock is completed. , Mr. Paquet said today that he Is ready to begin work at once when the contract bonds are signed up. BEECHLEY -FOR LUMBER British Steamer Secures Business While Being Repaired. i The British steamer Beechley will carry a cararo of lumber from this port to Australia as soon as she comes off the drydock at St Johns, where she is being repaired as a result of a seriea of mishaps last spring- In tha north Pa cific ocean, near Noma. - Bowrlng 4k Co. have engaged the' ves sel for the lumber cargo and ahe will take mostly mining timbers. The Beeoh ley will take away about 3,600,000 feet.
