Is now coHsidering a further advance and It la likely that the price will therefore be moved to 85c a pound. A year ago today the price of butter stood at 16c a pound or lc higher thw the highest quotation ruling today. This high price ruled laat year until October II. when It dropped Wk to S2He Then, again on DecemDer z n ni "v and on the thirteenth day of the JWJ month touched the high market of the season 37 fcc for the second time. Bgg Prion Are Mixed. Values In the local egg market are ; somewhat mixed. Th;' email arrlvala of local ranch enable the trade to put , values to almost any figure, but aev ! eral handlers say they are unable to secure above 28c for their stock, .while others talk of 39 30c. The present strained situation Is due entirely to the heavy purchases of eastern eggs by commission men. These eggs were pur at inw nrices. and when- ever the price of local eggs can be sent higher. It adds that much to the value of the eastern stock. Even though the commission handlers of local eggs paid their shippers more money than they are actually receiving for the eggs because they secure very scant supplies at this time they would still be mak ing more money because of the nlgn profusion the eastern, foods. Poultry Fricea on a Pane, tr.ini n tha nnultrv "Tnsrkot are be ing moved higner almost every day. but buyers do not take kindly to this treat ment and are holding off their pur chases as much as pdsslble. While re ceipts of poultry are somewhat heavier, the trade la able to secure the price quoted by The Journal without the least trouble, but one or two receivers are said to be quoting a still higher figure, but not receiving it. Receipts of turkeys are increasing somewhat in fact, the arrivals today were greater tliah for any week recent ly. Demand is quite fair at the price, but the market would not stand heavy arrivals and maintain high values. It Is stated that. Mr. McuouiricK or Van couver, who has the governments Phil ippine order for turkeys, has "farmed"' nut his order among various buyers, and they are at present ecourlnx the coun try fnr supplies. Brief HTotea of Pront Street. A car of sweet potatoes and a car of grapes were among the arrivals by rati this morning. WhllA rahhuirir'aiinnllea ara somewhat better the market is firm at $2 2.21. Peach supplies are somewhat better cleaned up and for good stock the price Is being maintained around 6076c. Poor apples are still checking the trade in the market and prices are un satisfactory. ' Fresn prunes are in larger suppiy, with prices ruling between 40 60c a crate of four baakets. Strawberries from local points came In this morning and found a demand around 20c. ' i All Is quiet In the hop market, with dealers, awaiting samples before start ing a buying movement. Chlttlm bark is steady to strong, with price maintained and demand un changed from last week. Those who want to sell at quoted figures are find ing no difficulty in doing so. Front street sells at the following price. Those paid shippers are less regular commissions: Batter, Eggs asa Poultry. BUTTER Extra, creamery, . 12 14c; fancy, JlHc; store, mo. Wr week tha killers have been buy Ing off-grade livestock even against their own better judgment, because they did not want the yards to become congested. Toey nave maae we siaie raent. that It certainly does not pay them to purchase off-grade stock even at the much lower level of prices, for the prices received for dressed stock does not pay them. Every one wants a better class of livestock than has been coming, and killers have of late shown their willingness to take hold of theae better qualities and pay a very good price. The proof of this Is tha very quick sale of every lot of 1 fine quality stuff that has lately arrived. Recently a car of cows and heifers sold at 14 with practically no difficulty with every buyer quite sorr- he was not able to land tha shipment. This good pricS was due to tha much better quality. While today there wre but small ar- rivals in mua auu gsir tmva 111 .uwt, the market Is In a sorry plight and of poor quality are not ill. xne atoca and the eating capabilities are said to be enormous. Prices are not so far apart and there Is evidence that It will not be long before dally sales will be made. The market for wheat was mixed on tha board today. While September op tion was dull and had but on hid. ths price was a fraction better than yesterday. ' Those' who hd held vlewa of a very higtt market In December ara evidently changing their minds tar sellers came down on their asked prices In this option to exactly the same price tr-at kldders had heretofore - been oA ferlng. December started at 83a bid and 4e asked. The bid and asked walues were both moved until It Uc waa Quoted. This la below the i asuea price or yesterday.. The De- cemoer delivery likewise started un changed but moved up a fraction and closed at 11.55 asked. Barley followed the trend of tha b d ding tn oats and after opening unchanged the market went up a trifle. rne casn grain situation is verv r rm though rather oulet at the moment Millers are not such anxious buyers at these level for wheat but holders ? determined not to sell for less. Cash oata price Is being held up because of tne greater demand than supplies. Ar rivals for this reason are very scant. since the recent decline of 15c a bar rel In the local values on flour, there has been a small spurt In business. Mr. Ford of the Ford Oraln com pany of Spokane was a visitor on change today and expressed surnrise inai tne local gram people did not do more business than at present shown.
