Contributions will be accepted in ' laree or small amounts from any or all who wish to see the Bryan and Kern side fairly and fully presented to voters in the pending : presidential campaign. Preliminary to the plan, and -as a part jof it, a special committee of five well-known citizens has been ap pointed by Chairman Sweek, at the instance of The Journal, and it 1 will be by this committee that ail funds contributed will be receipted for, accounted for and disbursed. The committee, though inde pendent of, is in perfect harmony with the existing Democratic camoaien committees, and comprises the following persons: Jef ferson Mvers, J. N. Teal and C. S. Jackson, Portland; State Senator William Jennings Bryan, Democrat! C. J. Smith, Pendleton, and W. M. Kiser, Salem. All members of Candidate for President, the committee hve consented to act except Mr. Teal, who is tem porarily in San Francisco, but is expected to accept the place on the committee upon his return. The personnel of the committee will be a sufficient guarantee to those who contribute that such contributions as are made will be wisely, economically and faithfully expended. The desire to give a fair hearing to the people of all sides of the pending issues,, and let them choose according to the 'dictates of their own consciences, is the occasion for the movement; the fact that the national Demo cratic committee has but limited means and cannot send funds to Oregon is the necessity. Remittances should be addressed Bryan Fund, care Journal, Portland, Or., and should be made payable to The Journal. Receipts will be issued, books will be kept that will at all times be open to the inspection of any -contributor, and before the election a report of the disbursements will be pub lished,', ; - VOTES President Wants Jfore Red Fire, Bands of 3fusic and j Expense 3Ioney for Repub lican Campaign Hitch cock Slow. These words were used by President Roosevelt in criticism of the work of Republican National Chairman Hitch cock, according to a cabinet officer who is talking today of the president's attitude in ' the- Taft campaign. The cabinet officer does not like Hitchcock. He says the president s word led to the appointment of Senator Crane of Massachusetts as pilot of the Taft cam paign.
