"The Secret Dispatch" Is a play which will make a success this week because It la of the most popular type of enter tainment Extra pains will ba taken with the production. Vaudeville at the Grand. Advanced vaudeville haa little better to of'er than the bill which the Grand will present this week, starting with the matinee tomorrow. A number of noted vaudeville artiata are in the col lection of entertainers and the bill ranges from legitimate dramatic play lets to comedy sketches with songs and dances. For the top of the bill the man Hgement announces Anita Hendrle, David Miles and company,. In the western tab loid drama, "The Marshal." It la a lit tle melodrama with the scenes placed In Colorado. T. H. Davis, author of the piece, haa condensed Into thla little drama the essence of a four-act play. It Is one of the most complete minia ture melodramas In vaudeville. Laughter la the specialty of the 61 donlas. One Is an eccentric tramp and the other a golf girl. This act visited Portland a long time ago and made good down to the last line. The act la re ported as being better than ever, which will be going some, vera De Basslni Is styled the Italian nightingale by mu sical critics, and she is also known as the human violin, because of her ability to perfectly reproduce the sweetest atraina of that instrument. Vera will introduce her imitation violin playing during her engagement at the Grand. Frank Hayes and Anna Sufts are du etista and exponents of eccentric danc ing. As fancy steppers they can win a medal In any terpstchorean contest. The Grace Tempest trio consists of Miss Tempest, assisted by James Dunn and Stanley Warner. Thla act consists of singing and dancing specialties, plenty of them, and each executed with skill and ginger. Letta Meaney and company will be seen In a comedy sketch pf life on the east side In New York, called "The Bowery Bud." This Is filled with fun and melody and possesses a few char acter touches such aa can be found no where else In the world. For the second week of her engage ment Bead I e Seaward will sing a new sentimental ballad with Illustrations, and the Montressa motion waves will deal with a novel subject. Today ends the present program, which Is a bill of merit. I "Htrel Kirke" at the Lyric. I One of the most beautiful plays that has ever been presented In America is "Haael Kirke," which will be the offer ing of the Allen Stock company at the Lyric for the week commencing Mon day night. It is one of the classics of the stage, and the great curae scene la one of the greatest situations that baa ever been presented in the history of the drama. Some of the greatest actors of the time have appeared In the various roles, notably Effle Ellsler in the title part and W. C. Couldock aa Dunstan vlbe old miller.
