Vaudeville at the Grand.
Advanced vaudeville haa little better
to of'er than the bill which the Grand
will present this week, starting with
the matinee tomorrow. A number of
noted vaudeville artiata are in the col
lection of entertainers and the bill
ranges from legitimate dramatic play
lets to comedy sketches with songs and
dances. For the top of the bill the man
Hgement announces Anita Hendrle, David
Miles and company,. In the western tab
loid drama, "The Marshal." It la a lit
tle melodrama with the scenes placed
In Colorado. T. H. Davis, author of
the piece, haa condensed Into thla little
drama the essence of a four-act play.
It Is one of the most complete minia
ture melodramas In vaudeville.
Laughter la the specialty of the 61
donlas. One Is an eccentric tramp and
the other a golf girl. This act visited
Portland a long time ago and made good
down to the last line. The act la re
ported as being better than ever, which
will be going some, vera De Basslni Is
styled the Italian nightingale by mu
sical critics, and she is also known as
the human violin, because of her ability
to perfectly reproduce the sweetest
atraina of that instrument. Vera will
introduce her imitation violin playing
during her engagement at the Grand.
Frank Hayes and Anna Sufts are du
etista and exponents of eccentric danc
ing. As fancy steppers they can win
a medal In any terpstchorean contest.
The Grace Tempest trio consists of
Miss Tempest, assisted by James Dunn
and Stanley Warner. Thla act consists
of singing and dancing specialties,
plenty of them, and each executed with
skill and ginger.
Letta Meaney and company will be
seen In a comedy sketch pf life on the
east side In New York, called "The
Bowery Bud." This Is filled with fun
and melody and possesses a few char
acter touches such aa can be found no
where else In the world.
For the second week of her engage

sentimental ballad with Illustrations,
and the Montressa motion waves will
deal with a novel subject.

which Is a bill of merit.

"Htrel Kirke" at the Lyric. I
One of the most beautiful plays that
has ever been presented In America is
"Haael Kirke," which will be the offer
ing of the Allen Stock company at the
Lyric for the week commencing Mon
day night. It is one of the classics of
the stage, and the great curae scene la
one of the greatest situations that baa
ever been presented in the history of the
drama. Some of the greatest actors of
the time have appeared In the various
roles, notably Effle Ellsler in the title
part and W. C. Couldock aa Dunstan
vlbe old miller.
In selecting thla as the forthcoming
bill the Lyric management haa choaen
well. It has not been seen here In
many yaara, but It la alwaya . welcome.
