A stranger attempted to pass a $36 check apparently signed, by John I Gllstrap and drawn on the Canadian Bank of Commerce. When questioned concern ing the authenticity of the check the man took fright and left the bank. The committee appointed to Investi gate the Sell wood school and Ita pro vision, for the . safety of pupils has made a report stating that there are not enough stairs and exits and that fire escapes 'should he Installed. Foreric, Teddo, Aeon and Inverlc, and regular sailing dates are maintained out of San Francisco after the steamers have called at Puget sound for part cargoes. It now appears that it will be profitable to add Port land to the route, although for a starter the liners will only call hero aa freight offers. . ' The Boverlo is ft large steamer with capacity for approximately 7,000 tons of freight. She Is now on the way to San Francisco from Australia with a cargo of coal. From here she will return to the Bay City to finish up with general cargo.
