Oakland has come and gone and met the same fate at the hands of the Seraphs as did Seattle and Portland. To Angelenos the wonderful record made by the home team seems almost too good to be true. Fifteen straight games is a record which even a National League nine would have good cause to crow over. As a result of Oakland's Waterloo here It is rumored there will be some radical changes In the line up of that team before many moons. When the Brigh ton boathou.se was towed from the Du wamlsh river to her old-time anchorage near the Chlopeck dock yesterday morn ing. It marked the opening of the yacht ing season. There were many sightseers along the waterfront who were unaware of the fact, however, and to them the large structure as it floated down the bay appeared to be a farm house that had been carried down the Duwamlsh river by a flood. A few more weeks will see all of Seattle's favorite yachts at anchorage near the hoathouse. 'I hey will crawl out from their snug winter quarters at Eagle Harbor, West Seattle and the Du wamlsh river and those that have not already been scrtlpT and painted will be overhauled. Unless the predictions of sportsmen are too optimistic the coming yacht ing season will be the most successful In the history of Pugct Sound Several white-winged beauties are to be added to last year's fleet. Eddie Herr occupied the box for the champions, and held the hard-hitting Browns down to three hits. Smith, Van Buren and Andrews were the hitters of the Browns. Van's being a double. Shields pitched a splendid game and, but for the unfortunate sixth Inning, when his support weakened, might have won his game. SALEM, April 15. C'has. and John French, young farmers living about four miles from this city, were arrested this morning upon complaint of Deputy, Game Warden Charles Alisky, of Portland. The men are charged with killing Chi nese pheasants, grouse, quail and song birds. The warrant was Issued from Justice of the Peace E. D. Horgan. The men wtre arraigned today, and their trial Is to take place tomorrow. These young men are accused of having per sistently killed birds, in violation of the law, and the Game Warden's office is determined to put a stop to the ruthless slaughter. Violations of this character are growing more plentiful, and only prosecutions will put an effective to the destruction of the birds. The Yosemite club .has decided to wait until the Brltt-Fitzgerald contest is decided before signing a match for its show next month. The spring season opened here yesterday, but so far as can be seen there are few fish In the river at present. It is thought that this season will be better than the past few years have been.
