The refined vaudeville entertain' ment given last evening at Flitters' by the Weston-Herbert combination ex celled anything ot tho kind that ever cam through th northwest. Most people are not educated up to modern vaudeville, and the futm Implies wme thing vulgar and unfit for ladle and children. However, vaudeville Is In no manner off color, but rather a form'of amusement that Is destined soon to itippluiit the time-honored comedy per formance. For , number ot reason, rfi attendance lost night was not what It should have been, but a better pleas ed crowd never sat through a perform ance. Every member of the company Is an artist, and the troupe Include tbe most remrakable juvenile comedian on the read. The little fellow, .Master Clifford Brandon, Is more than a show In himself. He sustain an Irish char acter Jn a truly astounding manner, and the audlcr.ee went wild over bint. There are three other Iiragdons Loren, th? elder Harold and Wilbur and their work I Indeed rare.' Hugh J. Era- mett made hi Initial bow to sn Adr ian audience last evening and was aq corded a send-off that waa flattering In tbe extreme. Mr. Emmett Is an art ist of exceptional ability, and as a ventriloquist ha few etunls. He lung a ong Inst night that alone wa worth th price of admission, and In many other specialties demonstrated hla tal ent. Mis Carrie Weston I a charm ing little lady whose work is clever and whose Illustrated solos were very phas ing. Weston and Herbert rlehly de serve all the credit that they have re ceived from the press of the coast, for no better specialists take money from the public. Their comedy sketch, "Down on the Farm," provoked no end of merriment, as did their novelty mus ical turn. All In all, the show Is su perb; and at tonight' performance the house should be packed to the doors. Theater ters should boar In mind that the entertainment la refined In every sense of the word and that nothing transpires which Would bring even the faintest trace of a blush to the face of any young lady. OVEll KLKCTIOX OP C. W. FULT4JN UclU Were Itiuijr, omb Were Exploded and I'andemcx ilium Itelfrned. 444444444444 Astoria went wild with delight ft few minute after 12 thl morn ing, and for the rest of the night the street were crowded with madly enthusiastic men and wo men, all celebrating the greatest victory that Astoria has ever, won. Bell were rung, whistle blown and bombs exploded. On every hand there was wild de light. and Astoria gave vent to its enthusiasm as only Astoria" can. ' ' : From noon yesterday to midnight anxious crowds gathered about the bul letin boards at The Astorian office and other place where return were receiv ed. When tbe noon ballot came In and ft was seen that "Charlie" had held his own, the hopes of the people rose and It was freely predicted that he would rucceed In the gnlUnt struggle he has carried on. However, the great test was still, to come, "md every bit of news that could be gathered furnished additional material for speculation. Toward 8 o'clock the excitement be came Intense. As each bulletin announ cing the result of the balloting wa re ceived, the hundred who thought of nothing else aired their views. To say that they wera satisfied with the noble stand of the 33 men who bad all along clung to the Astoria man Is to express It mildly. The determined stand of the Fulton forces buoyed up the spir it of the people of the city, but still It looked dark for Senator Fulton, for he had not made any gain. Well posted men, however, remarked that the Indi cation was a good one, for It went to show that efforts to break up the Ful ton forces were proving Ineffectual. The bulletin announcing the candi dacy of Scott was awaited with much Interest,' and when It became known that his name was not presented until almost midnight the opinion was gen eral that he could not be elected. i Things were at a standstill the usu- i al lull before the storm when there. suddenly came over the 'aire a brief j but wonderfully pleasing message. : It ! wa to the effect that Charlie Fulton had been successful. The waiting crowd was acquainted with tha new and there went up a genuine Astoria shout one of those whole-souled cheers that left no doubt a to the sincerity of the checrers. Then the bells start ed to ring. First the big fire bell rang out and then followed the church bells. In two minutes the city was craxy. The enthusiasts broke Into stores and secured large supplies of firecrackers and bombs, and there followed a cele bration that t seldom surpassed even on the glorious Fourth. To attempt to describe the scenes of enthusiasm that were enacted would be Impossible. The Juvenile spirit manifested itself in everyone and Joy reigned supreme. .
