President Mohler. of the Oregon Railway A Navigation Company, ac companied by Passenger Agent W. H. Hurlburt. Auditor E. 8. Benson and Freight Agent Campbell, officials of the same line, returned from Ilwaco yes terday afternoon on the Canby. When questioned regarding the re ported sale of the property of the Il waco Railway & Navigation Company to the Oregon Railway ft Navigation Company. President Mobler admitted that the dal had been consummated and that the control of the I. R. 4 N. would pass to the O. R. & N. the first of the coming month. President Mohlers answers to sev eral questions put to him by an As toria representative, are summed ud as follows: "The I R. & X. property was pur chased by us on August 7th. but we will not take charge of the same until the first of the coming month. The present dock of the I. R, & N. on this lde of the river will not be used, the tugs after that date leaving from the 0. R. & N. dock. "Our object In purchasing the road was not to 'fr.-eze' any railway out. We thought the road over there would be a paying Investment and will try to accommodate the traveling public by giving It Increase facilities." In reply to a question concerning the building of a road on the other side of the river from Portland to the mouth of the Columbia. Mr. Mohler said: "I know nothing whatever of that plan. In fact I never knew that there was such a plav? as Frankfort on the man. until I read of it In the paper this morning." "Was not your object In buying the 1. R. 4 N. a starter towards obtain ing a deep-water terminus for your road? It Is a well known fact that the O. R. A N. Is the only large road on the Pacific slope that has not a deep-water terminus." It Is eighteen miles In length and runs through several small villages along the coast. The rolling stock comprises eight passenger conches, three engines, twelve box cars and eight flat ears. The tugs. Nahootta and Canby were also owned by the com pany and are Included In the sate. It Is presumed that the O. R. te N. will continue the road to Point Kills, or Frankfort, where watr of a suffi cient depth to make a landing for the river brats owned by the company can be obtained, thereby transferring pas sengers from Portland to the North Beach with little loss of time, A large amount of freight is handled by the I. R. & N. for the many places along the coast frum Ilwaco to Nahcot ta. Including Seavlew, Long Bech, Tokel. all of tho Shoalwater bay coun try and the peninsula. The freight bus iness alone, should a roai t- built ta Frankfort, wll pay the running ex penses, and It is thought the O. R. 4 N. realizes the possibilities of the country through which it will run.
