OcaHoeflein went to Elk City Monday morning where he has ac cepted a position in the mill. George Hodges of Big Elk was in the city several days this week attending Commissioners' Court. Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Erntson and family departed Wednesday morn ing for Eastern Oregon where they will make their future home. United States Marshel Griffin 1 was down from Portland the first! of the week getting witnesses for the Federal Court at Portland. Excurison rates for!the Summer festivals and national conventions to be held on the Pacific coast dur ing 1912 have been fixed at one and one-third fares and liberal stop over privileges will be granted. While returning to his home on Salmon river from Newpor last Sunday morning, James West came near losing his life by drowning in attempting to pass around a point I on the beach at Schooner point, a! mile north of Cape Foulweather. j it was nign tide when . Mr. West reached the point and in attempting to "make a run for it" between breakers was caught by a huge breaker and swept from his horse. He lost his gun, some money and provisions, but was fortunate in escaping with his life. The schooner Nenamosha went to Siletz bay, returning Saturday.
